Translation Of Risalah al-Mu’awanah Abdullah al-Haddad

CONFIDENCE

O my brother, you should always strengthen and improve your belief. Because when that belief is firm and has taken hold of your heart, then everything unseen can suddenly be seen clearly as said by Ali ibn Abi Talib:

“If I open the curtain of the eyes of my heart, then faith will still not increase.”

Confidence is an expression of the strength and firmness of faith that has been ingrained and fused in the heart, like a towering mountain. Therefore, all forms of doubt and prejudice will not be able to blow it away, until finally both disappear without a trace.

If the doubts and prejudices come from outside, both ears will not listen to them while the heart does not care about them. Satan is unable to approach and tempt a person who has this kind of belief, even he runs away in fear to save himself from him. The man who has the above characteristics is Umar bin Khattab, as the Prophet has said

“Satan fears the shadow of Umar. If Umar takes one path, then he will take another.” (Reported by Ahmad, Turmudzi and Ibn Hibban from Buraidah)

The causes of firm conviction,

  1. This is the main thing and the pivot, which is to pay attention with the heart and listen with the ears to the verses of the Qur’an and Hadith that show the greatness of Allah, His perfection, majesty and greatness, and His unity in creating, ruling, controlling and compelling. And those that point to the righteousness of the messengers and their perfection, the miracles they performed, the punishment that befell those who opposed them, and the news of the Day of Judgment that relates to the reward reserved for the good and the punishment for the evil.

This ability to increase confidence is based on the words of Allah SWT:

“And is it not enough for them that We have revealed to you the Qur’an, and it is recited to them?” (al-Ankabut: 51)

  1. Paying attention to all of Allah’s beautiful and amazing creations, both in the heavens and the earth. Allah’s Word:

“We will make known to them the signs of Our power in some regions and that which is in their own persons, so that it will be clear to them that Allah is true.” (QS. Fushshilat: 53)

  1. Be serious in doing all deeds and remain based on faith and piety. The word of Allah SWT:

“And those who strive for Our pleasure. Indeed, We will show them Our ways.” (QS. al-Ankabut: 69)

Fruit of Faith

The fruits of belief that we can feel include inner strength, peace of mind, protection from Allah SWT, aspirations to always obey Him, and maximum efforts to get His pleasure. In short, belief is the essence of everything.

While noble degrees, praiseworthy character and good deeds are its branches and fruits. In fact, the good and bad character and behavior of a person depends on his beliefs. Luqman Hakim a.s. said:

“Activity can only be done with faith. A person can only be active according to his level of belief. And if one’s faith decreases, one’s activity decreases as well.”

The Messenger of Allah & said:

“Belief is the whole of faith” (HR. Baihaqi)

Levels of Belief of the Believers a. Ashabul Yamin

These are people who believe and are strong in faith, but at times, their souls can be shaken by doubts and presumptions.

  1. Al-Muqarrabin

Those who are truly strong in their beliefs, they are able to control their hearts by capitalizing on the firmness of faith and piety. All forms of doubt and prejudice will not be able to disturb and damage their faith. Even something unseen can be seen clearly. This level is called Iman bil yagin.

  1. The rank of the Prophets and their heirs

Even at this highest level, everything that is unseen and hidden can be seen very clearly and clearly. This level is called Iman bil kasyfi wal ‘iyan.

The difference between the owners of each degree is very far, there are those who are better and those who are better. That is the grace of Allah that He gives to whom He wills. It is only Allah who has great grace.

NIAT

O my brother, you should always correct and refine your intention before doing a deed. Because it is the foundation of all deeds. Whether a deed is good or bad always depends on the intention.

The Prophet said:

“All actions depend on intention and everyone will be rewarded according to his intention” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

Therefore, do not speak, work and desire without the intention of getting closer to Allah and always hoping for His reward. Thus Allah SWT will surely give you grace and glory.

The Relationship between Intention and Approach to Allah SWT

Know that your approach to Allah SWT will not be perfect if it is not in accordance with what is outlined by Allah SWT through the mouth of His Messenger, Muhammad &, both fardu and sunnah.

Sometimes the right intention affects permissible matters, so that they become gurbah (actions that draw closer to Allah). This is in accordance with the rule of Ushul science: Alwasail Hukmul Maqashid. For example, when we eat, we intend to gain strength and passion in worshipping Allah, when we have relations with our wives, we intend to be blessed with pious children.

Relationship between Intention and Charity

Intention is correct if it is accompanied by practice. For example, if a person seeks knowledge and intends to put it into practice, but when he has the knowledge he does not put it into practice, then his intention is not correct.

For those who seek the wealth of the world with the intention of not begging others, being able to give charity to the needy and establishing ties with their relatives. And if that intention is not carried out, then that intention is empty.

Intention has no effect on sinful acts, just as purification has no effect on unclean things (such as pork, which, no matter how many times it is washed, is still unclean). Hence, if a person meets someone who is gossiping, and he joins in the gossip in order to please the gossiper, then he is one of the gossipers.

Anyone who remains silent and does not speak out against evil when he sees it, because he does not want to hurt the hearts of the perpetrators, is collaborating in sin.

A good deed becomes void if it is based on bad intentions, for example doing good deeds to pursue wealth and rank.

So try, O my brother, so that your intention in worship is solely to seek the pleasure of Allah SWT. And intend when doing permissible things, as a help to do acts of obedience to Allah.

You know that if a person unites several good intentions in one deed, he will be rewarded as much as the intentions he made.

In relation to worship, for example, when we read the Qur’an we can unite several intentions, namely: to pray to Allah SWT, to explore the knowledge in the Qur’an, and to benefit the listeners.

In relation to what is permissible, for example when we eat, we should intend to:

– Carry out the commands of Allah SWT which are mentioned in His words

“O you who believe, eat that which is lawful which we have bestowed upon you” (al-Baqarah: 172).

– To always have the strength and passion to worship Him.

– And make it a reason to always be grateful for His blessings, this is in accordance with the Qur’an Surah as-Saba’ verse 15 which reads:

“Eat from the sustenance of your Lord and give thanks to Him.”

Definition of Intention

Intention has two meanings. First, intention is the expression of a desire that drives you to will, do, and speak.

In this sense, intentions are mostly better than deeds if the intended deeds are good, and vice versa worse than deeds if the intended deeds are bad. In accordance with the words of the Messenger of Allah

“The intention of a believer is better than his deeds” (HR. Baihaqi)

Reflect on why this is specific to believers.

Secondly, intention is the expression of an intention and determination to carry out something.

In this sense, intention is better than deeds. But this intention cannot be separated from the following:

  1. Intend and act on it immediately.
  2. Intending to do something but not doing it right away, even though you are able to do it. This intention is called azam (aspiration).

Both are explained in the hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas r.a from the Messenger of Allah, that he said:

“Whoever intends to do one good deed and does not do it, Allah will record for him one good deed. If he does it, Allah will record for him ten good deeds up to seven hundred times, even an infinite number of multiples. And whoever intends to do one evil and does not do it, Allah will record for him one virtue. When he does it, Allah records only one evil.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim from Ibn Abbas)

  1. Intending but being unable to carry it out and then wishing (he just says: If I could, I would).

So even if he does not do it, he will be rewarded like those who do.

This is in accordance with the Prophet’s words:

“Humans are divided into four groups. First, those who are blessed with knowledge and wealth by Allah. And he is able to utilize his wealth with his knowledge. Second, the person who only intends, if Allah grants me like him, I will also do deeds like him. Then both people get the same reward. Third, the person who is blessed by Allah SWT with wealth, without knowledge, then he uses his wealth with his ignorance. The fourth person, is a person who only intends to follow in the footsteps of the third person, if he is given that gift. So they both bear the same burden of sin.” (al-Hadis)

MURAQABAH

My brother, let you always be introspective to Allah SWT in all your activities. And let you realize that Allah is always near you.

And He always knows and watches your every move. For Him there is nothing secret and cryptic. Even the smallest creature in the earth and the sky will never escape His supervision.

Remember that He always knows what you speak, whether you speak loudly or softly. Wherever you are, He is always with you, and He is the Almighty.

His guidance, help and care are only extended to you if you belong to those who do good.

Be ashamed of Him. Do His commands and avoid His prohibitions and worship Him as if you see Him. And if you do not see Him, know that He always sees you.

And if there arises in your heart an aversion to obedience and an inclination to disobedience, say to your lust: “O lust! Verily Allah & always hears you, sees you, and knows all your secrets and whispers.”

If he is not able to obey your advice because of his lack of understanding of the majesty of Allah, then remind him of the two angels who always record virtues and vices, namely Raqib and Atid. And recite to him the words of Allah SWT.

“When the two angels who record deeds sit on the right and on the left. There is no word that a person utters except that two angels are always present at his side.” (QS. Qaaf: 17-18)

If the advice still doesn’t stop him, give him an understanding of the imminence of death. And death is a secret that awaits its arrival. If death has picked him up while he continues to do deeds that are not pleased by Allah SWT, then only endless regret will he get.

If he is still apathetic and ignores the advice, then remind him once again of the great reward promised by Allah, for those who obey Him and the painful punishment that Allah has prepared for those who disobey Him. Then tell the lust: O lust! There is no chance of repentance after death. And there is no place after this world, except heaven or hell. Choose whichever you like! If you obey Allah, then you will receive happiness, pleasure and eternity in the vastness of Paradise. You will even receive the greatest favor of seeing Him. If you disobey, you will surely receive humiliation, wrath and the punishment of hell.

All of the above advice is sure to bring great benefits to your life in this world and the hereafter.

You are only said to be ashamed and introspective to Allah SWT if the above advice can prevent your heart and lust from all activities that are not pleasing to Him and encourage you to obey Him.

Muragabah belongs to the praiseworthy position, the noblest rank and the highest degree. Muragabah is also included in the charter of ihsan as the Messenger of Allah (saw) said

“Ihsan is devotion to Allah SWT as if you see Him. Even if you do not see Him, He sees you.” (HR Muslim from Umar)

Every believer must believe that there is nothing hidden from Allah in the heavens or the earth, and that He knows and watches over all the activities of His creatures. However, the essence is always istigomah in terms of introspection, and the fruit of introspection is at least that he will not do a practice before Allah that will look embarrassed if seen by pious people. This kind of introspection is rarely possessed by believers and even more rarely reaches the level of fana. Fana is the disappearance of the self from other than Allah due to witnessing the One True and he is in a favorable shade with the Lord of Power.

REPAIRING THE HEART

You should always improve your inner self even more than your outer self, which is the best. That is because the inner is the place of Allah’s gaze, while the outer is the place of the gaze of the creatures. When Allah mentions sir (inner) and alan (outer) in the Qur’an, He will definitely mention sir first.

Among the Prophet’s supplications were:

“O Allah, make my inner self better than my outer self and make my outer self do righteous deeds.”

It is certain that if the mind is good, the birth will be good. Because the good and bad of the real thing always depends on the hidden thing. In accordance with the words of the Prophet Muhammad Saw:

“Verily in the body is a lump of flesh. If it is good, the whole body is good. And when it is damaged, the whole body is damaged. Know that it is the heart.”

If a person claims that his inner self is clean and free from evil, but he always neglects the external acts of worship, such as praying, fasting, giving zakaah and so on, then he is actually proclaiming himself to be a liar.

On the other hand, whoever only improves his outward appearance by improving all his activities in speaking, sitting, standing and walking, but his inner self is filled with bad manners and behavior, then he is classified as a tasunnu’ (pretentious person) riya and someone who turns away from Allah SWT.

O my brother, you should never conceal something that, if it were visible to others, you would feel ashamed of, arising from the fear of reproach.

Some wise people said:

“A person is not called a Sufi until he is no longer ashamed if

His inner self is placed on a platter and displayed in the middle of the market.”

If you cannot make your inner self better than your outer self, then at least make them both equally good. Thus you have followed Allah’s commands, avoided His prohibitions, glorified Him, and are earnest in seeking His pleasure, both in your solitude and in your company. And this is the first step taken by a servant towards the realization of Allah SWT. Billahit Taufik.

FILL TIME

You should fill your time with acts of worship so that there is not a single moment, day or night, except to serve Allah. In this way, you will see the blessing of time, gain the benefits of life and always be in front of Him. Similarly, set aside a special time to do your daily habits, such as eating, drinking and earning a living.

A problem (situation) will not be straightened out if it is accompanied by carelessness, and a work (heart) will not be perfect (good) if it is followed by negligence.

Hujjatul Islam, Imam al Ghazali said:

“You should divide your time, organize your prayers and fix your time with activities that you will not violate, and you should not be influenced by anything else in this matter of time. Whoever abandons himself to activities without a regular time, even doing as he pleases (like the irregularity of animals) will have much of his time wasted. Know that time is your age and age is the capital for investment (your worship). With that age you can also get eternal enjoyment in the side of Allah SWT Every breath of yours is like a priceless pearl, and if it is lost for nothing you may not be able to return it.”

You should not spend your time with one type of prayer, even if it is the most important one. This will deprive you of the blessings that come with a variety of wirid, so you should diversify from one wirid to another.

Because every wirid has an influence on the heart, light, help, and a high degree in the sight of Allah SWT. Alternating wirid can also free you from boredom, laziness and reluctance.

Ibn Athaillah ash-Shadzali said:

“Because Allah knows there is boredom in your heart, He has diversified the acts of obedience for you.”

You should know that every prayer has the effect of illuminating the heart and controlling its external members. But this effect can only be felt by the one who is always serious, repeats and is punctual in doing the prayer.

If you are not one who spends all his nights and days in good deeds, then fill part of your time with wirid, which you recite regularly at certain times, and repeat if you miss them, in order to train your soul to keep them. If your passions despair of you because you do not let your wirids fall by the wayside, but you repeat them immediately if they are missed, then eventually your passions will also be obedient to doing them at their times.

Sayyid Abdurrahman Assegaff r.a, said:

“Whoever does not have recitation is an ape.”

Some makrifat people say:

“Waridat (the abundance of Allah’s bounty) can be achieved by wirid. And whoever does not have wirid in his outer being will not have warid in his inner being.”

Be honest and fair in all matters. And do all acts of worship regularly, as the Prophet said:

“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are done regularly, even if they are small.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim from Aisha)

He also said:

“Perform deeds to the best of your ability, for verily Allah never gets bored unless you yourself get bored.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

One of the works of the devil is to influence a person who is just starting out, by increasing his acts of worship to the point of overdoing it. The devil’s aim is ultimately to turn him away from good deeds, or to do them for other purposes, and he doesn’t care what happens to him.

Most wirid are usually either sunnah prayers or reciting the Qur’an, or studying knowledge, or dhikr, or thinking.

You should perform voluntary (mutlag) prayers other than those that are warid (recommended and emphasized) by the Prophet Muhammad (S) at a time and number of rak’ahs that can be made regular. One of the salaf scholars, may Allah have mercy on him, used to pray one thousand rak’ahs a day and night as Imam ‘Ali ibn Husayn r.a did, and some used to pray five hundred rak’ahs or three hundred rak’ahs a day and night.

Prayer has an outer form and an inner essence. Prayer will not be meaningful in the sight of Allah SWT until its outer form and inner essence are perfect.

The outward form of prayer is the pillars and etiquette of the forehead which consists of standing, reading al-Fatihah and surahs, bowing, prostration, tasbih and so on. While the inner essence is the presence of the heart, sincere intention solely for the sake of Allah # towards the essence of achieving goals because of Allah and the unification of the heart and the concentration of the mind only on the prayer itself. Do not let your heart talk about other things so that you are able to carry out the ethics of communing with Him.

The Prophet said:

“Verily, the one who prays is seeking his Lord.”

He also said:

“When a person prays, Allah exposes His Substance to him.”

It is better to pray the absolute voluntary prayers after the mugayyad voluntary prayers with the most complete number of rak’ahs, such as if you want to pray the absolute voluntary prayer after the gabliyah prayer, do the most complete number of rak’ahs of qabliyah first, if you want to pray the absolute voluntary prayer after the Dhuha prayer, do the most complete number of rak’ahs of Dhuha prayer first.

Witr prayer

The ruling is sunnah muakkad, and some scholars say it is obligatory.

The Prophet’s words:

“Verily Allah is odd, Allah loves the odd, so pray Witr, O people of Duran.” (HR Turmudzi from Ali)

He also said:

“Witr prayer is right and whoever does not pray Witr is not one of my people.” (Reported by Abu Dawud and Hakim from Buraidah)

The maximum number of Witr prayers is 11 rak’ahs and the minimum is 3 rak’ahs. Witr prayer is preferably done at the end of the night for those who are used to it and have the ability to do it.

In accordance with the words of the Prophet Muhammad Saw:

“Make the end of your night prayer Witr.” (HR. Bukhari, Muslim and Abu Dawud from Ibn Umar)

And for those who are not used to doing it at the end of the night, then they should pray Witr after the Isha prayer.

Dhuha Prayer

Dhuha prayer has many blessings and benefits. The maximum is eight rak’ahs, or twelve rak’ahs, the minimum is two rak’ahs.

The best time to do it is when Siag is approaching and a quarter has passed (around 9am).

The Prophet’s words:

“Every morning all your joints must be given in charity. Every tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, takbir, and amar makruf nahi munkar, are all sadaqah. And all of them can be replaced by just doing two rak’ahs of Dhuha prayer.”

If there is no more information about the virtue of Dhuha prayer other than this Hadīth, it is sufficient.

Awabin Prayer

Sunnah awabin prayers are prayers that are performed between Maghrib and Isha, with a maximum of twenty rak’ahs, and usually six.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever prays two rak’ahs between Maghrib and Isha, Allah will build a house for him in Paradise.”

He also said:

“Whoever prays six rak’ahs (sunnah) after the Maghrib prayer, without interrupting it with dirty talk, that prayer will make up for twelve years of worship.” (HR. Turmudzi)

It has been explained in several traditions and sunnahs of the Messenger of Allah about the virtue of spending the time between Maghrib and Isha. In this regard, Ahmad ibn Abi al-Hawariy asked his teacher, Shaykh Abu Sulaiman:

“O teacher, which is better, fasting during the day or spending the time between Maghrib and Isha in good deeds?”

“Do both,” the teacher replied.

“But I am unable to do both. Because, if I’m fasting, the time between Maghrib and Isha is a busy time for breaking the fast.”

“Then give up fasting and fill the time between Maghrib and Isha with good deeds.”

Aisha r.a said:

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) did not enter my house after the ‘Isha prayer unless he had prayed four or six rak’ahs (which he did between Maghrib and ‘Isha).

The Prophet’s words:

“The four rak’ahs of voluntary prayer (between Maghrib and ‘Isha) are like the four rak’ahs of prayer performed on the night of Lailatul-Qadr.”

Night Prayer

You should always pray Sunnah at night, because the Prophet said:

“The best prayers after the obligatory prayers are the (voluntary) prayers at night.”

He also said:

“The virtue of night prayer over daytime prayer is like the virtue of secret charity over open charity.” (narrated by Thabrani and Abu Nuw’aim from Ibn Mas’ud)

It is also reported that secret charity outweighs the virtue of open charity by seventy times.

The Prophet’s words:

“Always perform the night prayer. For indeed the night prayer is a custom of the righteous before you, it draws you closer to your Lord, expiates your sins, prevents you from committing sins and repels sickness in the body.” (HR Ahmad, Turmudzi, Hakim and Baihaqi)

You should know that the one who prays after the Isha prayer has prayed the “lail prayer”. Some of the salaf used to pray at the beginning of the night as their practice, but waking up after sleeping at night is useful to anger the devil and train the soul. There is also the amazing secret of the Tahajjud prayer, which Allah commanded His Messenger to do in His words:

“And in some parts of the night pray tahajjud as an additional act of worship for you.” (QS. al-Isra: 79)

And from the Atsar of the Companions:

“Allah was amazed by the action of His servant who rose from his bed and from his wife’s side to pray (tahajjud). He then praised him before His angels, and presented His glorious face to him.”

You know that it is very bad if a person who seeks the Hereafter does not get up at night (to pray). Isn’t a seeker of the Hereafter always wanting more and being ready to receive nafahat all the time. The Prophet said:

“Verily, there is a time in the night (mustajabah) when if a Muslim asks for good in this world and the Hereafter, Allah will give it to him. And that time is in every night” (HR. Muslim from Jabir)

It has been explained in various previously revealed scriptures that Allah said:

“Liar, the one who claims to love Me but sleeps every night, and forgets Me. And does not the one who loves something enjoy the company of his beloved.”

Shaykh Ismail Ibn Ibrahim al-Jabarti said:

“All good deeds are gathered at night. And one does not attain guardianship except at night.”

Sayyid Abdullah bin Abu Bakar Alaydrus said:

“Whoever desires the purity of realization should always weep (humbly before Allah) in the middle of the night.”

The Prophet’s words:

“(The mercy of) Allah descends upon the earth, in the last third of the night.” Then He cried out, “Whoever prays, I will grant. Whoever seeks forgiveness, I will forgive. Whoever asks, I will give, and whoever repents, I will accept his repentance. Mercy descends from the third of the night until dawn breaks.”

If there were no other traditions that recommend getting up at night other than this one, it would be sufficient. Yet in the Qur’an and as-Sunnah there are many suggestions to get up at night.

By performing the night prayer, the masters of understanding attain a noble status, feel the pleasure of being close to Allah, love for Allah, and the deliciousness of meditating and dialoguing with Him, so that some wise people say:

“If the dwellers of heaven are in the state we are in now, then they are truly in a good life.”

Another wise man said:

“Ahlul Lail (those who wake up at night for worship) are like ahlul lahwi (those who spend their time in pleasure) in their nights.” (i.e., they both feel pleasure, pen.)

Another wise man said:

“For forty years nothing has saddened me, except the rising of dawn.”

The pleasure of this night prayer cannot be felt, except after tasting the hardship and suffering of waking up during the night. As Atbah al-Ghulam said:

“I have labored in night prayer for twenty years, only then have I tasted its pleasure for twenty years.”

If you ask: “What surah did I read and how many rak’ahs did I do for the tahajud prayer?”

Answer: You should know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not prescribe any particular surah to be recited during the tahajjud prayer. However, it is better to read the Qur’an in an orderly manner, little by little, so that you can complete it in one month, more or less, depending on your ability.

There are several narrations that explain the number of rak’ahs, namely 7, 9, and 13 rak’ahs. But the Prophet himself most often did 11 rak’ahs, which is the number you should do.

It is mustahabb when you wake up to wipe your face while praying:

“Praise be to Allah, who has brought us to life after putting us to death. And only to Him do we return”

Then recite the verse:

“Verily, the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of the day and the night, are signs of the power of Allah for the people of understanding, those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying down. And they think of the creation of the heavens and the earth and say, “Our Lord, You have not created this in vain; Glory be to You, so preserve us from the punishment of Hell. O our Lord, surely the one whom You have sent to Hell, that one You have humiliated. And there is no helper for those who do wrong. O our Lord, indeed we have heard the call to faith, that is, believe in your Lord! Then we believed. O our Lord, forgive us our sins and expiate our iniquities and kill us with the good ones. O our Lord, give us what You promised us through the medium of Your Messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Verily, You are not unfaithful.” Then their Lord granted his request, (saying), “Indeed I do not waste (the reward) of the deeds of those who do good among you, whether men or women. Some of you are descended from others (countrymen). So those who migrate and are expelled from their lands and are harmed, in defense of My religion and those who fight and are killed, then indeed I expiate their wrongs and I enter them into Paradise where rivers flow beneath, that is some reward from Allah and with Him is a good reward.” Do not be deceived by the freedom with which the disbelievers move about in the land. (Such is) a temporary pleasure, and then their abode is Hell, and that is the worst of places. But those who fear their Lord, for them is Paradise with rivers flowing beneath, and they will remain therein, and they will be guided by Allah. And that which is with Allah is for the best of people. Indeed, among the People of the Book there are those who believe in Allah and in the Book which was sent down to you (i.e. the Qur’an) and in the Books which were sent down to them (i.e. the Torah and the Gospel), and they humble themselves to Allah. They do not sell the verses of Allah for a low price. For them is a reward in the sight of their Lord. Verily, Allah is quick to judge. O you who believe, be patient (in obedience and calamities) and be patient (against your enemies) and be steadfast (in the spirit of jihad). And fear Allah. May you be happy (by entering Paradise and being saved from Hellfire).” (QS. Al-Imran: 190-200)

After reciting these verses, then take a tooth-stick and complete your ablution. Then pray two rak’ahs of Sunnah quickly. Then pray eight rak’ahs (with the intention of praying Witr), extending the recitation by two rak’ahs with one salam, or four rak’ahs with one salam, or eight rak’ahs directly with one salam.

If you still have the initiative and enthusiasm to pray, do as many voluntary prayers as you wish. Then finish with the Witr prayer of three rak’ahs with one salam or two salams. Recite Surah al-A’la, Surah al-Kafirun in the second rak’ah. And surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas in the third rak’ah. And do not think that the eleven Rak’ahs of the Witr prayer are other than the Rak’ahs that we have mentioned in the last paragraph; they are not. Indeed, there is no narration from the Messenger of Allah other than what we have narrated to you. Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing.

READING AL-QUR’AN

Make the recitation of the Qur’an your practice and be diligent in reciting it every day and night. At least one juz every day so that you can complete it in a month. And it is even better if you are able to complete it in three days.

The Prophet said:

“The most important worship of my Ummah is reciting the Quran.” (HR. Hakim)

Ali karramallahu wajhah said:

“Whoever recites the Qur’an while praying standing, he will receive one hundred good things for every letter. Whoever recites it while praying sitting, he will receive five good qualities for every letter. Whoever recites it outside of prayer and in a state of purity, every letter is twenty-five good things. And whoever recites it while unwashed, every letter is ten good things.”

Do not make the purpose of your recitation only to increase the number of recitations without thinking about the meaning and the rules of recitation. At the same time you should contemplate and understand its meaning, accompanied by the recitation of the Qur’an. Bring to your heart the majesty of the Holy One who spoke the Qur’an and in whom He commands, forbids, advises and testifies to you.

When you read a verse that contains His One-ness and greatness, fill your heart with His greatness and greatness as well, on verses related to His promises and threats fill your heart with joy and fear. As for the verses that contain His commands and prohibitions, be grateful and realize your shortcomings in worship and ask Him for forgiveness, and make up your mind to always obey Him.

Know that the Qur’an is like a vast sea. It is also able to bring out pearls of knowledge and some valuable insights, even with the recitation of the Qur’an that a person can open his understanding so that he is able to understand something and more perfect nur and increase his knowledge until there is no boredom in reading it day and night. And it is with the Qur’ān that one can attain its aims and objectives. Without boredom, that is the true nature of one who loves the Hereafter.

Shaykh Abu Madyan said:

“A person is not said to be a true disciple until he has obtained everything he wants through the Qur’ān.”

You should always recite the surahs and verses mentioned in the Prophet’s hadith which contain great virtues. Among them:

  1. Recite the surahs: Alif Lam Mim as-Sajdah, al-Waqiah, al-Mulk and the last two verses of Surah al-Bagarah every night before going to bed.

“The messenger has believed in the book sent down from his Lord to him. And the believers are all those who have declared faith in Allah, His angels, His books, and all His messengers, and they say: we do not distinguish any messenger from His messengers. They say, “We hear and we obey.” They pray, “O our Lord, forgive us. To You is the return.” Allah does not place an obligation on a person except according to his ability. What he does well is for himself, and what he does not do well is for himself. They prayed, “O our Lord! Let us not be punished if we forget or make mistakes. O our Lord! Let us not be burdened with heavy burdens as You have burdened those who were before us. O our Lord! Do not impose on us that which we are not able to bear. Forgive us! Forgive us! And have mercy on us! You are our Protector. Therefore, help us over the disbelievers,” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 285-286)

  1. Surat ad-Dukhan on every Monday and Friday night.
  2. Surat al-Kahf on every Friday night and Friday.
  3. If everything is possible recite the seven suras al-munjiyat, i.e. surah as-Sajdah, surah Yaasiin, surah Fushshilat, surah adDukhan, surah al-Waqiah, surah al-Hasyr, surah al-Mulk every night.
  4. Recite every morning and evening a few verses from the beginning of Surah al-Hadid, the end of al-Hasr, al-Ikhlas three times, al-Falag and an-Nas three times.

The verse from Surah al-Hadid that was recited was:

“Allah has sanctified (glorified) all creatures in the earth and the heavens. And Allah is Mighty (in His kingdom) and Wise (in His creation). To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and death. And He is all-powerful over all things. He is the One who begins (before all things with no beginning) and ends (after all things with no end), the outward and the inward. He knows all things. He created the heavens and the earth in six days (beginning on Sunday and ending on Friday). Then He dwells on the Throne. He knows what is in the earth, what comes out of it, what comes down from the sky and what goes up to it. He is with you wherever you are. Allah sees all that you do.” (QS. al-Hadid: 1-4)

The verses from Surah al-Hasr that were recited were:

“When We sent down this Qur’an on a mountain, indeed you saw it bow down and split apart for fear of Allah. That is the example We have given to mankind. May they think of it (and believe). He is Allah. There is no God but Him, knowing the unseen and the present, He is Compassionate, Merciful. He is Allah. There is no God except Him, the One who rules (the universe), the One who is safe (from disgrace and deficiency), the One who provides security, the One who watches over (all His servants), the One who is Mighty, the One who (has) the right to force, the One who is Great, Glorified is Allah from that which they associate with Him. He is the One who creates, who brings (things from nothing to something) and who makes (things beautifully). To Him belong some of the best names. He sanctifies the creatures of the heavens and the earth, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.” (QS. al-Hasr: 21-24)

  1. Recite Surah al-Ikhlas, al-Falag, an-Nas, Ayat Kursi and al-Kafirun before going to bed.

LEARNING USEFUL KNOWLEDGE

Make reading useful books your practice. For it is by it that you can know the Substance of Allah, His attributes, His actions and His favors, know the procedures for obeying Him, prevent all disobedience, lead to zuhud against luxuries and always love the Hereafter, know your disgrace and the harm caused by your own works, and understand the tricks of your enemies.

The useful knowledge is contained in the Qur’an, the hadith and several books compiled by the Imams, which have been compiled by Imam al-Ghazali.

His books are very useful for those who wish to have firmness in religion, deep knowledge and firm conviction. Therefore, study his books if you wish to follow the path of tarikat to the level of hakikat (such as Ina Ulumuddin, Minhayul Abidin, Bidayatul Hidayah, etc.).

The book compiled by Imam al-Ghazali has a distinctive value, both in wholeness and encouragement that is able to move the heart. In stark contrast to other books of Sufism, Imam al-Ghazali’s book is able to make an impact in a short time.

Read a lot of hadith, tafsir and other general Sufi books, so that you will have complete success in walking on the straight path, according to the words of the wise.

You should not read Sufi books that have difficult and obscure wordings. This can be found in the treatises of Ibn Araby and the treatise by Imam al Ghazali entitled al-Mi’raj wal Madhawa.

Shaykh Zaruq in his book, Ta’sisul qawaid, warns us not to study these books to save ourselves from going astray.

He did not mention the treatises of Shaykh Abdul Karim al-Kailani that were composed after his time, all of which must be avoided in order to maintain religious safety.

If someone says: “I study these books only to take what I can understand, and I leave the understanding I cannot understand to the author.”

The correct answer to that question is: “You are indeed a wise man. But I fear that if you misunderstand it, you will be led astray from the path of truth, just as many people before you have fallen into misleading traditions, such as the notion of tahallul, ittihad (God merging with the creation) and, most dangerously, zindia (disbelief).”

ZIKIR

You should make dhikrullah a recitation with a predetermined time and number. And there is nothing wrong with using tasbih to determine the amount.

Some wise men said: “Dhikr is the pillar of tarigat, the key to the essence, the weapon of the disciple, and the radiance of clairvoyance.”

Allah’s Word:

“Remember Me, and I will remember you.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 152)

Allah also said:

“So remember Allah while standing, sitting and lying down” (QS. an-Nisa’: 103)

Likewise, Allah says in another verse:

“O you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance.” (QS. al-Ahzab: 41)

The Prophet also said:

“Allah says, I am according to the prejudice of My servant. And My mercy is with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in solitude, I remember him in My Substance. And if he remembers Me in a group, I remember him in a better group.” (HR. Baihaqi from Abi Hurairah)

In another Qudsi hadith he also said:

“Allah says, I am the seatmate of those who remember Me.”

He also said:

“Would you like me to tell you of your deeds that are best and holiest in the sight of your King (i.e. Allah &) and can elevate your status, and are better for you than giving in charity gold and silver, and defeating your enemy in the arena of battle.” The Companions replied, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah!” The Messenger of Allah replied, “The best of these is Dhikrullah.”

Methods of Dhikr

Dhikr contains several high benefits, from its fruits and essence, only the one who is istigamah, civilized and presents his heart in dhikrullah will taste the sweetness and deliciousness of dhikr.

The lowest level of a person who feels the sweetness of dhikr is when he is able to turn away from the delights of the world, while the highest level he reaches is to find transience in himself and everything other than Allah SWT.

Whoever sits in a quiet place in a state of purity facing the qiblah, solemn in his members with his head bowed, then remembers with his heart present, then he will feel the effect of that remembrance on him, the shining of the light of approach to Allah and the opening of unseen secrets.

The best dhikr is to bring the meaning of dhikr to the heart, for example by appreciating the holiness of Allah when reciting Subhanallah, and His One-ness when reciting Laa Ilaaha Illallaah.

Keep your tongue wet with dhikr in all situations and conditions, except in the state of contemplation and recitation of the Qur’an, because we will not be able to do dhikr and these practices at the same time.

In addition, you should not use only one remembrance, and you should use a variety of other remembrances.

Dhikr and Prayer

You should always remember and pray, especially after prayer, in the morning and evening, and before and after going to bed.

The Messenger of Allah (S) did not encourage his followers to make dhikr and supplication, except that it should be the cause of their benefit, goodness and salvation from the evil that befalls them in any situation and condition.

Whoever neglects dhikr and supplication and then meets with disaster and is prevented from fulfilling his desires, then he should not criticize anyone but himself. And whoever wants to practice the remembrance and supplication that was highly recommended by the Messenger of Allah, then read the book al Adzkar by Imam Nawawi.

Some of the most commonly recited prayers after the five daily prayers are:

And especially after the Fajr, ‘Asr and Maghrib prayers, add this recitation:

Read it every morning and evening:

Reading Salawat Make the salawat over the Prophet Muhammad one of your wirid Because salawat is your link with the lover of Allah SWT, Muhammad Saw and also serves as an opening pint of help.

The Prophet said

“Whoever recites salawat on me once, Allah will salawat on him ten times.” (HR. Ahmad and Muslim from Abi Hurairah)

He also said:

“The one whom I love the most and am closest to among you is the one who recites the most salawat on me.”

Allah SWT also said:

“O you who believe, recite the salawat and salam upon the Prophet Muhammad.” (QS. al-Ahzab: 56)

In addition to reciting salawat and salam on the Prophet, also recite salawat on his family, such as:

“O Allah, send salawat and salam upon our leader, Muhammad and his family.”

Recite salawat on Friday nights and Fridays in accordance with the Prophet’s words:

“Recite salawat to me on the blissful night (i.e. Friday night) and on the shining day (i.e. Friday).” (Reported by Baihaqi from Abi Hurairah and Ibn Ady from Anas)

TAFAKUR

You should always do tafakur (contemplating the greatness and power of Allah SWT) every day and night according to the time you have determined, whether it is one hour or several hours.

The best time to contemplate is in the middle of the night because it is a time that is empty and free from activity and can have a positive impact on our hearts.

The good of life in this world and the integrity of religion depend on the perfection of tafakur. Whoever performs it well will attain abundant good.

One narration states:

“One hour of reflection is better than a year of worship.”

Ali ibn Abi Talib karramahullahu wajhah also said: “There is no better act of worship (sunnah) than contemplation.”

Some makrifat people say: “Tafakur is the lamp of the heart. When it leaves, the heart becomes pitch dark.”

Object of Tafakur

There are several objects of tafakur that are worth thinking about, including:

  1. Thinking of God’s creation and power, both apparent and obscure, in the earth and the heavens.

This first method is the most honorable way to know His substance, attributes and some of His names.

In accordance with the recommendation of Allah SWT in the Qur’an:

“Consider what is in the heavens and the earth.” (QS. Yunus: 101)

And you are one of His most marvelous creations. Therefore, reflect on yourself. This is in accordance with Allah’s words

“And in the earth are signs (of Allah’s power) for those who believe. And (also) in yourselves. So do you not see?” (QS. adh-Dzariyat: 20-21)

  1. Reflect on the bounty of Allah bestowed upon you, and the favors bestowed upon you.

Allah’s Word:

“And always remember the favors of Allah so that you may have good fortune.” (QS. Al-A’raf: 69)

Allah also said:

“And if you were to count the favors of Allah, you could not determine their number.” (QS. an-Nahl: 18)

In another Surah Allah says:

“And whatever blessings you have, they are from Allah.” (QS. an-Nahl: 53)

The Fadilah of this second method is that the heart becomes full of love and gratitude to Allah SWT physically and mentally.

  1. Reflect on the vast knowledge of Allah who sees and watches over you.

Allah’s Word:

“And indeed We have created man and know what his heart whispers. And We are nearer to him than the sinews of his neck” (Qaaf: 16).

Allah also emphasizes in His word:

“Allah is with you wherever you are. And Allah knows all that you do.” (QS. al-Hadid: 4)

In another Surah Allah says:

“Do you not see that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth? There is no secret talk between three people, but He is the fourth. And there is no talk between five, but He is the sixth. And there is no talk between less or more than that, but He is with them where they are. Then He will recount to them-on the Day of Resurrection-what they have done. Verily, Allah knows all things.” (QS. al-Mujadalah: 7)

It encourages us to be ashamed of observing His prohibitions and forsaking His commands.

  1. Reflect on the shortcomings in your worship and the transgressions you have committed, which may incur the wrath of your Lord.

Allah & says:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship (Me).” (QS. adh-Dzariyat: 56)

“Do you think, then, that We have created you playfully. And that you will not be returned to Us?” (QS. al-Mukminun: 115)

“O people, what has deceived you (to disobey) your Lord, the Most Gracious?” (QS. al-Infithar: 6)

“O man, verily you have labored earnestly towards your Lord, then surely you will meet Him.” (QS. al-Inshiqaq: 6)

This method can increase fear of Allah SWT encourages introspection on disgraces and faults, to stay away, carelessness, and always be ready to worship.

  1. Reflect on the life of the world, and its rapid rush and destruction.

Also think about everything related to the hereafter, the enjoyment and eternity of life there.

Allah Almighty says:

“Thus has Allah explained His verses to you that you may think of the world and the Hereafter.” (OS. Al-Baqarah: 219-220)

“But you (disbelievers) choose the life of the world. But the life of the Hereafter is better and more lasting” (QS. al-A’la: 16-17).

“And there is no life in this world but a joke and a charade. And indeed the Hereafter is the true life, if they know.” (OS. al-Ankabut: 64)

This meditation increases your zuhud to the world and increases your love for the afterlife.

  1. Think of the moment of death and the loss and regret afterwards. Allah SWT says:

“Say, verily, the death from which you flee, verily it will meet you, then you will be returned to Allah, Who knows the unseen and the manifest. Then He will tell you what you have done.” (QS. alJumuah: 8)

“(Such is the state of the disbelievers), that when death comes to one of them, he says: “O my Lord, bring me back”. So that I may do righteous deeds for what I have left behind. Never. Verily, it is only a word that he utters. And before them is a wall until the day they are resurrected.” (QS. al-Mukminun: 99-100)

“O you who believe, let not your wealth and your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so, then they are the losers. And spend some of what We have given you before death comes to one of you and he says: “My Lord, why do you not delay my death until a time nearer, when I may give in charity and be among the righteous?” And Allah will not delay any man when the time of his death comes. And Allah is aware of all that you do.” (QS. al-Munafiqun: 9-11)

The benefit of tafakur is to shorten hope, improve deeds and prepare for the next day.

  1. You should also think about the deeds that Allah has described that relate to His guardians of those who turn away from Him, and reward and punish both groups in this world and in the Hereafter.

“Verily, those who are devoted are indeed in a paradise full of pleasures. And indeed those who disobey (i.e. non-Muslims) are indeed in hell” (QS. al-Infithar: 13-14) -.

“So are the believers like the wicked? They are not the same!” (QS. as-Sajdah: 18)

“As for the one who gives (his wealth to fight for the religion of Allah) and fears. And confirms the best reward in Paradise. Then We will prepare for him an easy path. As for the one who is miserly and thinks he has enough.” And denies the best reward. Then We will prepare for him a difficult path.” (QS. al-Laili: 5-10)

“So We punished each one of them for his sin, so on some of them We rained pebbles, and on some of them a loud thunderous sound, and on some of them We sank them into the earth, and on some of them We drowned them; and Allah did not intend to wrong them, but they wronged themselves.” (QS. al-‘Ankabut: 40)

“Verily, the believers are those who when the name “Allah” is mentioned, their hearts tremble. And when His verses are recited to them, their faith increases. And it is to God that they put their trust. (Those who establish prayer and spend some of the sustenance We have given. Those are the ones who truly believe. They will attain some degree of elevation with their Lord and forgiveness and a noble sustenance (in Paradise)” (QS. al-Anfal: 2-4).

“And Allah has promised those who believe among you and do righteous deeds that He will indeed make them rulers on earth, as He made those before them rulers.” (QS. An-Nur: 55)

“The male and female hypocrites are the same; they enjoin evil and forbid good, and clasp their hands (i.e., are miserly). They have forgotten Allah, so Allah has forgotten them. Indeed, the hypocrites are the wrongdoers. Allah threatens the male and female hypocrites and the disbelievers with Hellfire; they will abide therein. Enough is Hell for them (as their recompense), and Allah curses them and for them is an everlasting torment.” (QS. at-Taubah: 67-68)

“And those who believe – men and women – some of them are helpers to others. They enjoin what is right, and forbid what is evil, and establish prayer, and give alms, and they obey Allah and His Messenger. They will be given mercy by Allah. Indeed, Allah is Mighty and Wise. Allah has promised the believers, male and female, (a) Paradise in which rivers flow, and they will abide therein, and (a) beautiful place in Paradise Aden; and the pleasure of Allah is greater, and that is a great good fortune.” (QS. at-Taubah: 71-72)

“Verily, those who do not look forward to meeting Us, and are content with the life of this world, and are content with it, and who neglect the signs of Our Lordship, their place is Hell, for what they have always done (of disbelief and disobedience). Their place is Hell, because of what they have always done (of polytheism and disobedience).” (QS. Yunus: 7-8)

“Verily, those who believe and do righteous deeds are guided by their Lord because of their faith, underneath them rivers flow in a paradise full of pleasure. Their prayer is “Subhanakallahumma” (Glory be to You, O Allah) and their salutation is “salam” (peace be upon you). And their closing prayer is “Alhamdulillahi Rabbil’ Alamin” (praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds).” (QS. Yunus: 9-10)

The benefit of this tafakur is that it makes you love the fortunate ones and encourages you to do their deeds and act according to their morals.

Prohibition of Thinking about the Substance of Allah

All of Allah’s creation is a source of tafakur that can influence and strengthen the deep faith in the heart. And you should never think of the Substance of Allah and His attributes by investigating and discussing their nature in depth. Because that is not in accordance with the limitations of the human brain and intellect which are unable to reach it.

The Prophet’s words:

“Think of the powers of Allah and do not think of His Substance. Indeed, you will not be able to think of His essence.” (HR. Ibn Hibban)

And the purpose of these wirid (daily practices) is to be present with Allah, so you should do that. And you will not get there until you have walked the path, which is doing good deeds (zohir deeds) accompanied by the force of being present with Allah, and if you are diligent in doing that, you will certainly be covered with the light of His closeness and the knowledge of makrifat. At that time, your whole heart is always present to Allah and it becomes a very strong character of your character, so that sometimes you force yourself to be present with creatures. It may be that if you are unable to do so, ghaibah, istighrag, fana from all other than Allah, and others that are included in the magam of Ahlullah (the guardians of Allah) appear in that state. So the essence of it all is to be diligent in doing good deeds (charity) and to be present with Allah in those deeds.

And do not neglect to do good deeds for fear of not being able to do istigamah, for that is foolishness.

And you should not do charity on the basis of leisure and excitement, but rather limit your charity to that which can be increased during your energetic times and not abandoned during your lazy times.

And know that hastening in goodness and maintaining obedience is a habit of the prophets and saints, both in the beginning and the end of their walk towards Allah, because they are the most knowledgeable about Allah. It is no wonder then that they were the highest in worship, obedience and fear of Allah. This is because a servant’s approach to God depends on the degree of his love for Him, while love is always directly proportional to the knowledge of his Lord. Therefore, every servant who knows more about Allah must love Him more and worship Him more. If you are preoccupied with the world and following your lusts in taking prayers and worship routines, then try to take time in the morning and evening only to be busy saying tashbih, istigfar and other kinds of worship. And it has been narrated from the Qudsi hadith, Allah SWT says: “O son of Adam, make a moment of the morning and evening for Me, surely I will suffice for you between these two times.”

And there is a hadith: Verily the pages of His servants are shown to Allah at the end of each day. If there is good at the beginning and end of the day, Allah commands the angels to expiate the sins between the two times. And that is the gift of Allah to us and to all people, but many of the people are not grateful for it.

ADHERING TO THE QUR’AN AND HADITH

Qur’an and Hadith

Always hold fast to the Qur’an and the Hadith, for they are the core of the religion, and the guide to the straight path.

Therefore, whoever clings to both. then he will be lucky and safe and get hidaya and always be under the protection of Allah SWT Conversely, whoever turns away from both, then he will be lost, regret, and meet destruction.

Make them your judges and have the right to rule over you. Return all matters to them, as Allah and His Messenger have commanded. Allah’s Word

“O you who believe, obey Allah, His Messenger and your rulers (if those who rule obey Allah and His Messenger). If you have a dispute about a matter, refer it to Allah (i.e. the Qur’an) and His Messenger (when he was alive and to the traditions after his death) if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is better for you than disagreement and better for you.” (QS. an-Nisa’: 59)

The Prophet’s words:

“I testify to you with something. If you hold on to it, you will not go astray forever, (that something is) the Qur’an and the Hadith.”

If you want to always be on the path of happiness without any doubt and misalignment, then conform all your goals, morals, activities and speech to the Qur’an and hadith. Do everything that is in accordance with them and leave everything that contradicts them. Be cautious in doing righteous deeds and follow the path of goodness forever. And do not make innovations in religion. Nor should you follow a path other than that of the believers. If you do not, you will be a real loss both in this world and the Hereafter.

Bid’ah

Do not invent something new that did not happen at the time of the Prophet and do not follow the ways of those outside Islam who will bring you real harm in this world and the Hereafter. Beware of what is new and not in accordance with reason.

The Prophet said:

“Every new thing is bid’ah and every bid’ah is heresy.”

He also said:

“Whoever creates something new in my religion that does not belong to it is rejected.”

Bid’ah is of three kinds, namely:

  1. Bid’ah hasanah, which is bid’ah that the Imams say is good and does not deviate from the Qur’an and hadith, and brings benefits and benefits to the people. For example:

  1. The action of Abu Bakr r.a. in collecting the Qur’ān in one mushaf.
  2. The action of Umar ibn Khathab r.a. in doing tarawih.
  3. The action of Usman bin Affan r.a in bringing order to the surahs of the Qur’an starting with al-Fatihah and ending with Surah an-Nas, and az twice before the Friday prayer.
  4. The actions of Ali bin Abu Talib r.a. in fighting the rebels of the country.

  1. Bid’ah madzmumah, which is bid’ah that is reprehensible in the eyes of the zuhud and gana’ah, but is still permissible according to sharee’ah rulings, such as dressing beautifully, eating delicious food and living in luxurious houses. These are all permissible.

  1. Bid’ah madzmumah absolute, which is bid’ah that is absolutely reprehensible because it contradicts the Qur’an, hadith and consensus of the scholars. And not making every effort to follow the footsteps of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

If a person claims to have attained greatness in the sight of Allah and does not adhere to the Qur’an and Hadith and does not follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he should be called a boaster. So, do not sympathize with him even if he is able to fly in the air, walk on water or travel long distances in a moment and has extraordinary powers. Such claims are often made by demons, sorcerers, witch doctors, soothsayers and necromancers. The knowledge and powers that they possess are not from Allah, but are only a lure from Him. This is because Allah’s karamah and maunah are only bestowed upon those who have faith. Many ordinary people who have doubts about their worship of Allah, are often deceived by the actions of someone who pretends to have received karamah and maunah from Allah SWT.

Whereas a reasonable and sound-minded person will not fall for this trick, because he knows that the difference between a servant who is close to Allah depends on his perfection in following the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah.

One day Yazid al-Busthami went to visit a person who was known to be a person of authority. After arriving at the place, he waited while sitting in the mosque. Then the man came out and spat on the wall of the mosque. Upon seeing this Abu Yazid immediately went home and did not go to see the man: “How can such a man be trusted to carry the secrets of Allah when he himself does not adhere to the manners of the Shari’ah.”

Junaid al-Bagdadi said: “All paths to Allah’s favor are always closed except to those who follow in the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah.”

Sahal bin Abdullah said: “There is no one who can provide help except Allah and no guide except the Messenger of Allah. There is no good provision except piety. And there is no best work except patience in that work.”

Scholars

Know that no one is able to solve all his own physical and mental problems in accordance with the Qur’an and hadith, because this ability is only possessed by scholars whose knowledge is deep.

If you face a problem that you are unable to solve on your own, then return to those whom Allah has chosen as a place of return (scholars).

Allah Almighty says:

“So ask the people of remembrance, if you do not know.” (QS. an-Nahl: 43)

What is meant by an expert in remembrance is a scholar who knows and understands the attributes of Allah and His religion, practices the knowledge he has, always seeks the pleasure of Allah, is zuhud towards the worldly, always remembers Him, is not distracted by commerce and buying and selling, preaches in the way of Allah SWT with reason and wisdom so that the secrets of Allah are open to him. This remembrancer deserves the identity of a scholar who is pious in his knowledge and heart.

However, such scholars have become so rare that some of the great scholars are of the opinion that scholars with knowledge and heart are no longer available.

But, in fact, scholars who are sound in knowledge and heart still exist. It is just that they are covered by Allah with a curtain of His glorious attributes and kept secret, because of the actions of certain people and the turning away of the common people from them.

Whoever wants to seek out the scholars of the rashihin, let him be earnest, God willing, he will find one of them. Because earnestness is like a sword, when placed on something, it will cut it. And also this earth will not be empty of people who fight and uphold the religion of Allah, as the Messenger of Allah (saw) said

“A group of my Ummah will always speak the truth, not wavering from the actions of those who oppose them until the Day of Resurrection.” (al-Hadis)

They are like stars scattered on this earth, holders of the mandate, successors of the Messenger of Allah, heirs of the Prophets and soldiers of Allah. Know that the soldiers of Allah are the happy ones.

STRAIGHTENING THE CREED

You should always improve and strengthen your faith in accordance with the saved group called ahlus sunnah wal jamaah. Because this group always holds fast and follows the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah & and his companions.

If you are able to use a straight and correct understanding arising from a clean heart of the Qur’an and the traditions that expound faith, the history of the salaf, the Companions and the Tabiin, then you will know and be able to prove the truth of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah (Ash’ariyah) attributed to Abu Hasan al-Ash’ary. The truth that will be appropriate in every time and place.

Abu Hasan’s formulation is also the standard of the Sufis, as Abu Qasim al-Qusyairy stated at the beginning of his treatise. And it, too, is the creed of us, our families and the sayyids of the descendants of sayyid Hussein (Alawiyyin) is the creed of our ancestors from the time of the Prophet until today.

Al-Imam Muhajir Shaykh Ahmad ibn Isa ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq, when he saw the rise of innovations, the breaking of passions, and differences of opinion becoming more and more heated, moved from his country (Iraq) from one place to another until he reached Hadramaut, where he stayed until his death.

And Allah blessed his descendants so that many of them became famous for their knowledge, worship, clairvoyance and insight. And they are protected from innovations and misguidance by the pure intentions of this trustworthy imam, and his migration from the land of fitnah (Iraq).

May Allah give him the best of rewards and blessings on us, as a father gives his son, and raise his rank along with his noble ancestors to the highest place, and follow us to goodness and prosperity and survive all trials and tribulations. For He is the Most Compassionate and Merciful.

It is obligatory for believers to maintain their faith and follow the great scholars and hold firm in their knowledge, a clear creed avoiding shubhat or doubt. This is in accordance with Imam Ghazali’s creed as explained in the chapter Qawaidil Aqaid, the first chapter of the book Ihya Ulumuddin. And you should read it. If you want to add more insight then you should read the third chapter of the book Ihya Ulumuddin.

Do not be hasty in discussing the science of Tawheed and debating it just for the sake of gaining a perfect understanding.

Because you will not be able to understand the science of Tawheed unless you follow the path of salvation by practicing Sufism, which means always being pious inwardly and outwardly, contemplating the verses of Allah and the hadith, thinking about Allah’s creations on earth and in the sky with the aim of strengthening faith and being consistent in Tawheed, adorning yourself with praiseworthy character traits, away from reprehensible morals by cleansing the heart, being persistent in dhikr, doing tawakkur and being able to detach yourself from anything that interferes with gaining understanding in the science of Tawheed.

Insha Allah, with this method you will be able to understand the science of Tawheed deeply and correctly.

The Sufis, for example, always fight their lusts and are earnest in their worship. They do this because they know that attaining the perfection of makrifat depends on mujahadah. And the realization of the magam ubudiyah (servitude) is the hope and desire of the ahlu (people) of makrifat, depending on the perfection of one’s makrifat.

FARD AND SUNNAH WORSHIP

You should always fulfill all obligations, avoid all prohibitions and increase the number of acts of worship for the sake of Allah alone. If you do that, then you will reach the closest place to Allah and you will be enveloped in the veil of mahabbah by Him. This is the blanket of the waliyullah and khalifatullah (Allah’s representatives).

Allah says in a qudsi hadith:

“My servant does not draw near to Me with any deed that I love more than that which I have favored him with. And always My servant draws near to Me with good deeds until I love him. When I have loved him, then I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he holds, and his feet with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give him. If he takes refuge in Me, I will surely protect him. And I never hesitate in anything that I do like My hesitation in taking the life of My believing servant. He dislikes death, while I dislike his bad deeds. And he must die anyway.” (HR. Bukhari from Abi Hurairah)

Contemplate – may Allah have mercy on you – what the Oudsi hadith contains about secrets, knowledge, and deep understanding, and this servant will not reach the great dignity that what he loves and hates will become love and hate in the sight of Allah, except after performing obligations and increasing the Sunnah with the intention of drawing closer to Allah. So compete if you have the sincerity and desire to reach the dignity of perfection, the degree of rijal (great people in the sight of Allah).

You should know that Allah, by His mercy and grace, has made the voluntary acts of worship make up for the deficiencies in the obligatory acts. However, this does not apply to sunnah deeds of the same kind, such as praying with praying and fasting with fasting. The obligatory acts are the main thing, while the sunnah acts are merely supplementary to the obligatory acts. The one who performs the obligatory deeds and refrains from the unlawful without performing the voluntary deeds is in a better state of behavior than the one who performs the voluntary deeds and neglects some of the obligatory ones. Do not turn away from the obligatory deeds because you are busy with a voluntary deed, then you will be guilty of neglecting the obligatory. Allah will also not accept your voluntary deeds. An example of such a situation is a person who is busy seeking knowledge that is Sunnah and neglects learning the obligatory knowledge, or a person who does not work (even though he is able to) because he is busy doing Sunnah worship and makes his family beg for money from others.

Know that you will not be able to perform the acts of obedience that Allah has enjoined, avoid the disobedience that Allah has forbidden, let alone the voluntary acts of worship that serve to draw closer to Allah, except with knowledge. So seek knowledge!

This is in accordance with the Prophet’s words:

“The pursuit of knowledge is obligatory upon all Muslims.” (HR. Baihaqi from Anas)

With knowledge you can know what is obligatory, Sunnah and forbidden. With that knowledge, you know how to perform obligatory and Sunnah things, and how to avoid forbidden things.

Because the role of knowledge is so great, it is obligatory to study and practice it. By practicing knowledge you can gain success in this world and the hereafter.

You should know that those who worship without knowledge will cause various harms to themselves, and the harms are far greater than the benefits. How many people go to great lengths in worship, but do not receive any reward because their worship is not based on knowledge. In fact, he still commits sin because he thinks it is an act of obedience or not sin.

The scholar of the realization of Allah, Muhammad bin ‘Arabiy, in his Kitab al-Futuhat in the section al-Washaya, narrates:

There was a man from Maghrib who was diligent in his worship, and one day he bought a female donkey. But he did not use it for work or anything else. Then someone asked him, “Why don’t you use your donkey for work?” “Because I only use it to take care of my private parts”, the man replied.

Indeed, the man did not know that having sexual intercourse with animals is haraam. When he learned of the prohibition, he wept bitterly. That is the result of someone who only worships without knowledge.

The knowledge that is obligatory for every Muslim is the knowledge that explains the provisions that are required by Allah SWT and the prohibitions that are forbidden by Him.

You should always do what you are obligated to do according to the way it is done. It is not obligatory to know something except when you are about to do it, such as when a person reaches puberty in the month of Muharram, it is obligatory for him to immediately know the meaning of the two creeds and recite them. It is also obligatory to learn the conditions, pillars and rulings of the five daily prayers.

It is obligatory for the one who has reached puberty to know the obligatory duties, such as fasting, zakaah, Hajj and so on, and it is also obligatory for him to know what is forbidden by sharee’ah, such as adultery, drinking alcohol, taking other people’s property and so on.

It is not obligatory to know the procedures for fasting and Hajj, except when the months of Ramadan and Dhul-Hijjah come. It is not obligatory to know how to pay zakaah unless one has wealth that is subject to zakaah, has reached the nisaab, and the time for paying it has arrived.

Haram and wajib are well known to most Muslims. However, knowing the ruling is far more important. Learning and receiving the ruling is not valid unless it is from a Muslim scholar who fears Allah SWT.

Ordinary people are sometimes wrong and sometimes right. Therefore, do not follow them. The only ones you should look up to are the ulamaul-amilin, whose existence is very rare.

If you see a pious person today doing or leaving something that you do not know the truth or falsity of, then you should not be satisfied with seeing his behavior (doing or leaving) until you ask him about it in terms of sharee’ah.

To produce the required knowledge, Muslims do not have to take a long time and strain themselves. A student who is able to seek knowledge only needs to sit with a pious person for an hour or two, as explained in the hadith:

“A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who was on the podium and asked him to teach him a lesson that Allah had given him. So he came down from the podium to teach him, then he went up to the podium again to complete his speech.” (al-Hadis)

Overall, whoever wants to be safe and successful must not learn or teach anything until he knows the rulings of Allah, which are obligatory, Sunnah, permissible and forbidden. Everything is subject to these four rulings, and learning about them is obligatory for every Muslim.

In general, the criteria for believers are divided into two parts, namely:

  1. Awam believers are those who still neglect their obligations and do haraam things and give more importance to permissible things than sunnah ones. They should repent and seek forgiveness.

  1. The special believer is one who obeys all the commands of Allah and avoids all His prohibitions, likes to worship the sunnah and restricts himself from permissible things. Even then, he does it only as an intermediary to carry out some of Allah’s commands and stay away from His prohibitions.

CLEAN

You should always maintain physical and mental cleanliness, indeed, a person who is perfect in the cleanliness of his soul and heart is like an angel in human form.

The Prophet said,

“Religion is built on cleanliness.” (al-Hadis)

In addition, he also said:

“Verily, Allah is clean. He loves cleanliness.” (al-Hadis)

Inner Hygiene

Inner cleanliness can be done by cleaning the heart from bad morals, such as arrogance, riya’, hasud, love of the world, etc., and decorating it with praiseworthy character, such as tawadhu’, having a sense of shame, sincerity, generosity and so on.

One way to save ourselves from bad morals, in order to acquire akhlagul karimah has been prescribed by Imam Ghazali in his book Ihya ‘Ulumuddin part II. Therefore, study and practice it.

Zahir Hygiene

Physical cleanliness can be obtained by abandoning everything that is contrary to religion and practicing everything in accordance with the guidance of Islamic law. Whoever adorns his outward members with righteous deeds and improves his soul with good morals, then his cleanliness is complete. If he does not reach that perfection but still tries to practice that cleanliness, he still gets a share of that perfection according to how much akhlaqus sayyiah he avoids and how much good deeds he performs.

What is included in the category of external cleanliness is removing all dirt from the body, purifying from impurity and uncleanliness, removing hair around the genitals, plucking or cutting armpit hair, shaving the mustache and cutting the nails. It is also recommended to cut the nails on the hands, starting from the index finger of the right hand to the little finger, then the little finger of the left hand to the thumb and ending with the right thumb.

On the feet, it is recommended to start with the little finger of the right foot and end with the little finger of the left foot, according to the way we put water between the toes during ablution.

The makrooh ruling is to delay cleaning the above-mentioned things by forty days.

Other forms of cleanliness include removing dirt from between the eyes and holes in the body, removing dirt from the eyes such as eye discharge, removing dirt from the nostrils, and removing food debris from between the teeth.

You should always clean your mouth with a miswak or toothbrush and preferably with arak wood. It is especially recommended when going to worship.

You should always clean your dirty clothes with water. Use water sparingly, and do not overdo it, for that is the behavior of the mutrafin.

Some things related to cleanliness are oiling the beard and combing it, as well as the sunnah of tidying up any hair that is kept.

It is recommended to do three times in each eye, as the Messenger of Allah (saw) did.

Use perfume and fragrances to remove bad odors. This is especially recommended for Friday prayers and when attending a gathering. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (saw) was very fond of using perfume and fragrances, to the extent that the shine of the oil on his head was clearly visible. He did this so that his followers would follow in his footsteps. Even though he did not use perfume, his body smelled so good that some of his Companions collected his sweat to make it into perfume. It is mustahabb for men to use a fragrance that smells good but does not show its color, while for women it is the opposite.

Guard yourself from uncleanliness! If it gets on something wet, then wash it off immediately. If you are junub, wash immediately. Because the junub person is rejected in the presence of Allah SWT, so he is forbidden to be in the mosque and read the Qur’an.

The hadith says: “Angels will not enter a house in which a junub person is present, and when the angels come out, demons will enter from all directions.”

You should not eat or sleep when you are junub, as this can have a negative impact. If you are unable to do ghusl immediately, wash your genitals and perform ablution immediately.

You should renew your ablution every time you perform the obligatory prayers. Try to always be pure and do ablution when you have a shaad because ablution is a believer’s weapon, when the weapon is in your hand, the enemy will never dare to approach you.

Hikayat

A man came to Shaykh Abi Hasan as-Sadzili, to learn chemistry. Ja was ordered to stay at his place for one year. He was willing to teach him on the condition that he always performed ablution when he had an ablution, and after his ablution he prayed two rak’ahs. He promised to teach him afterwards.

After one year of living in his place, when the man was drawing water from the well, he suddenly saw that the well was full of glittering gold and silver. But strangely, when he got the gold and silver he immediately returned it to the well. Because ja no longer loved the world at all. Then he went to Shaykh Abi Hasan and told him about the strange event he had just experienced.

“Your whole body now contains chemistry”, said Sheikh Abi Hasan. Then he invited the man to become a da’i who always calls on the way of Allah SWT.

You should pray two rak’ahs after wudhu. If you are not able to be pure from impurity at all times, you should be pure from impurity when entering the mosque, reciting the Qur’an, dhikr, learning knowledge, etc.

In doing wudhu or bathing, do not just perform the fard. It is better to fulfill the sunnahs and manners as well, in accordance with the teachings of the Messenger of Allah (SAW).

It is mustahabb to do ghusl on certain occasions with the intention of keeping the body clean even if there is no shampoo.

Hadith also strongly recommends bathing on Friday for those who want to pray on Friday.

After wudhu or bathing, it is recommended to say:

“I bear witness that there is no God but Allah – the One, with no partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.”

DAILY ACTIVITIES

You should always follow the Sunnah of the Prophet in all your outward and inward activities, customs and worship, in order to be a true follower of him.

If you want to be among the as-Shadigin, those who are sincere to Allah, then you should not do anything related to customs or worship until you know whether the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his Companions did it. If none of them did it, then you should not do it, because they, the Companions, would not abandon a practice unless they knew that there was a greater benefit in abandoning it.

If you know that the Prophet or his Companions have done it, the first thing you should know is how to do it.

Some scholars are reluctant to eat watermelon. They said: It is true that we have been told that the Messenger of Allah ate watermelon. But since I do not know how he ate it, we do not eat it.

People who do something related to customs, which are in accordance with Prophetic Manners, will get several benefits from Allah SWT, including avoiding amalamal that is not pleasing to Him, away from low character and getting benefits and benefits in this world and the hereafter.

Whoever wants to be clean and free from all impurities, pure from moral decadence, then his every movement and silence, outwardly and inwardly, is always in accordance with the Shari’ah and common sense.

The customs and daily activities that the Sufis criticize are those that are accompanied by lust and lust apart from the manners and laws of Islamic law. They will not criticize customs that are far from lust and lust.

Imam al-Ghazali in his work, al-Arbain, after encouraging us to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah and reminding us of the secrets contained therein, said: “This is all in the case of customs, whereas in the case of worship, I find no excuse for the one who abandons the Sunnah except hidden kufr or clear ignorance. Remember that!”.

It is recommended to recite Bismillahirrahmanirrahim at the beginning of an activity. If you forget to recite it, then when you remember recite Bismillah fi awwalihi wa akhirihi.

Make every effort not to do anything unless it is based on good intentions.

Get dressed

In dressing it is recommended to intend to cover the ‘awrah. This is because Allah has commanded you to cover your ‘awrah. It is mustahabb to start dressing from the right side and leave it from the left side, like when wearing a bracket.

Raise the garment (such as a sarong or baju kurung), up to the middle of the calf, and not beyond the ankle or above the middle of the calf. This is preferable for men. As for women, let their clothes reach the ground, which is touched by about two-thirds of a dhira’ (approximately 35 cm).

Make your sleeves up to the wrist or to the tips of the fingers. Do not go beyond the tips of the fingers. Because the sleeves of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) reached the wrist. While the shirt of Ali ibn Abi Talib reached the tips of the fingers.

Do not dress in clothes that are too good or too bad Dress in clothes that are of moderate value,

Do not uncover the ‘awrah, except in cases of necessity, such as bathing, relieving oneself, and so on. Recite the following sentence when uncovering:

“In the name of Allah, there is no god but He.”

While what is recited when dressing is:

“Praise be to Allah, the One who has clothed me with this garment and has provided me with clothing without any effort or strength on my part”.

It is mustahabb to wear a turban, but it is not mustahabb to widen the sleeves of the shirt and enlarge the turban.

Manners of Speaking

Do not speak, except with good speech. And every speech that is forbidden is also forbidden to be heard.

Speak slowly and in an orderly manner. Listen to other people’s conversations, and never interrupt them, except for those that may incur the wrath of Allah SWT such as gossip, and gossip.

If someone is talking to you about something that you already know, keep that knowledge to yourself. Do not tell him so that he will not be offended and disappointed.

If someone tells you something that is not true in front of you, do not say: “Your story is not true!” But you should say: “Brother, the truth is this…”

And if it’s a religious story, then correct it subtly and with solidarity.

Avoid idle talk and swearing by the name of Allah. Do not swear by His name, except in cases of extreme necessity. Consider and think carefully before you swear.

Avoid false speech, as it can undermine faith.

Stay away from gossip, namimah, fighting, banter and any immoral talk. Think before speaking, if it is good, speak. If it is not good, be silent.

The Prophet’s words:

“Every human conversation is his responsibility, except for the remembrance of Allah SWT, or commanding ma’ruf nahi munkar.” (al-Hadis)

“God loves a man who speaks of good, and is fortunate. Or is silent from speaking of evil, so he is safe.” (Reported by Ibn Mubarak from Khalid bin Imran)

A man who utters useless words (may later) result in his being put into hell whose depth is farther than the morning star (from the earth).”

Walk

Do not move your feet except for good or for purposes that are not contrary to sharee’ah.

When you walk, do not hasten or act haughtily, arrogantly. That causes Allah’s wrath. Do not be ashamed to walk behind others and do not be proud and happy to walk in front, for these are the characteristics of the arrogant.

When walking, do not turn your head frequently to the left and right, and do not stop in the middle of the road just because you are nosy. Walk as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walked with his head bowed, and if he was called from behind, he would stop and not turn his head.

Sit

When you sit, guard your aurat. Do not expose them. Make it a habit to sit facing the qiblah, solemnly and quietly. Avoid scratching, twisting, making noise and yawning in front of others. If you yawn, cover it with your left hand.

Do not chuckle, for it is deadly to the heart. Smiling is better than laughing excessively.

Do not get up from your seat before reciting the prayer below:

“Glory be to You, O Allah, and by praising You, I testify that there is no God but You. I seek forgiveness from You and repent to You.”

Sleep

When going to bed, lie on your right side, face the qiblah, repent of all sins, intend to get up for the night prayer, and say:

  1. “In Your name O Allah, O my Lord, I lay down – my lamb. In Your name, O Allah, I raise my hull, so forgive me my sins. O Allah, save me (from) Your punishment on the day You gather all Your servants.” 3X

  1. “I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Great. There is no God but Him, who is alive and takes care of creation. And I repent to Him.” 3X

  1. Subhanallah, 33 times.

  1. Alhamdulillah, 33 times.

  1. Allahu Akbar, 33 times. There are also some dhikr to be recited before going to bed other than the above. Do not forget to make dhikr before going to sleep and sleep in a state of purity.

Don’t get into the habit of sleeping on a soft mattress, because that will make you fall asleep. Then you will be disappointed when you see the reward that Allah promises for those who pray at night. The Prophet said:

“In the Hereafter, people will be gathered in a field. Then there will be a call, ‘Where are those who raised their hulls from their beds (for the lail prayer)?’, only a few will raise their fingers. Then they will be admitted to Paradise without reckoning.” (al-Hadis).

The mother of the Prophet Solomon b. Dawud said: “O my son, do not sleep much at night for that may cause you to be deprived of reward on the Day of Judgment.”

Imam al-Ghazali said: “Know that there are 24 hours in a day and night. Do not sleep more than 8 hours. If you sleep for 60 years, that is one-third of your time wasted on sleep, 20 years.”

If you have difficulty sleeping lying on your right side while facing the qiblah, then sleep lying on your right side without facing the qiblah.

Be careful not to sleep with your back to the qiblah. It is permissible to lie to the left when relaxing. A short nap before Zuhr can help you wake up at night.

Do not sleep after the Fajr prayer because it may prevent sustenance from coming, and do not sleep after the ‘Asr prayer because it may cause insanity and sleeping before the ‘Isha’ prayer may cause insomnia (difficulty sleeping).

If you have a pleasant dream, recite Alhamdulillah and interpret it properly according to your dream. If it is a bad dream, recite the ta’awudz, then spit to the left three times then change your lying position, and do not tell anyone about it because it may harm yourself.

If someone tells you a dream, do not interpret it except by his own will, or the permission given to you to interpret it.

Eating and Drinking

Recite Basmalah before eating or drinking, and Alhamdulillah after doing both.

Eat and drink with your right hand If food or drink is placed before you, then recite.

“O Allah, grant us blessings in our sustenance and grant us food that is better than it.”

Except when drinking milk, then recite:

“O Allah, bless us in our sustenance and increase it for us because there is nothing better than that.”

Always wash your hands before and after eating. Keep your bites small, chew smoothly and do not take any other food until you have swallowed the food in your mouth, start eating from the sides and not from the center, because blessings descend in the middle.

If some of your food falls out, pick it up and wash it. And don’t leave it for the devil. After eating, lick your fingers and the place where you ate.

Eat using the middle finger, thumb and index finger. But if you can’t, then use all the fingers. For example, when we eat rice. When you eat with others, eat only what is near you, except fruits. Do not pay much attention to the table manners of those around you or talk to them except for what is appropriate to talk about at the time of eating, and do not talk while the food is still in your mouth. If circumstances force you to spit or blow your nose, turn your face away from them or stand a little further away or move to another place.

When you eat at someone else’s place, praise and pray for them and thank them for their kindness.

After eating, recite a prayer:

“Praise be to Allah. O Allah, as you feed me with good food, so make me a righteous person. Praise be to Allah, the One who has fed and provided for me without any effort or strength on my part.”

Whoever recites this supplication, Allah SWT forgives his past and future sins.

Don’t be too pushy to bring side dishes, and don’t insult the food even if it’s not of good quality.

Do not make delicious food the purpose of indulging in lust. If that is your aim, then you are among those mentioned in the Prophet’s hadith:

“The ugliest of my Ummah are those who eat delicious food and their bodies grow fat. And their only aspirations in life are food, clothes, and long talks (that have no benefit).”

Said Ali ibn Abi Talib Karramallahu wajhah, “Whoever’s aim in life is only to put something in his stomach, then his dignity and honor are like the stuff that comes out of it (his stomach).”

Make every effort not to put anything in your stomach except what is halal. Whoever eats halal food for 40 consecutive days, his heart becomes radiant, from his tongue come words of wisdom, Allah gives him the glory of being zuhud towards the world and his heart is always in contact with Allah in harmony. On the other hand, the one who eats haraam or shubhat (unlawful) food always has a dark heart, his words are useless, and his relationship with Allah is always hindered.

Be careful and do not eat until you are full, even if it comes from something that is lawful, because fullness is the first cause of evil.

Eating to the point of gluttony also causes hardening of the heart, damage to the intellect, confusion of the mind, and laziness in worship and so on.

Eating modestly is to stop eating when you still want to and not to eat except with the right appetite. A proper appetite is when you crave any food.

When you drink, sip and do not drink in one gulp, drink with three breaths, do not breathe on the drinking vessel or drink on a cracked vessel, avoid drinking while standing and drink from the mouth of a bucket. If there is no proper place to drink, such as a cup, glass, etc., then use your hands as a place to drink. After drinking, recite the prayer:

“Praise be to Allah, who has made this water fresh by His grace and has not made it salty and brackish because of our sins.”

Intercourse

When you are about to have intercourse, recite the prayer: ,

“In Your name, O Allah, keep us away from Satan and keep Satan away from the child You have given us.”

And cover your body and your wife’s body with a blanket. You should always have intercourse slowly and calmly. When you feel the emission of semen, recite a verse of the Qur’an silently without moving the tongue, the verse recited is:

“And He (Allah) created man from water (sperm), then He made man to have offspring and kinship from marriage. Your Lord is the Most Powerful.” (QS. al-furqan: 54)

When asked whether it is better for a student to get married or not, the answer is that it depends on which of the two is more likely to save his religion, benefit his heart and concentrate his mind.

It is haraam for an unmarried man to think about women, because that may lead to wasting his time in useless activities and making his heart inclined towards them, which may interfere with his acts of worship. So if he can afford to get married and fulfill all his obligations, he should get married. If he is unable to do so, then he should fast, because fasting is one of the means of controlling desire.

Shitting

When you enter the bathroom to urinate or defecate, then put on your sandals and cover your head, putting your left foot first when entering and your right foot when exiting. Recite this supplication when entering the bathroom:

“In the name of Allah, I seek refuge with You (O Allah) from the male and female devils.”

And when you go out, recite:

“I seek your forgiveness, O Allah. Praise be to Allah, the One who has removed impurities from me, and has given me health.”

Do not dhikr in the bathroom, except in your heart and do not carry a writing that contains the name of Allah SWT to glorify and glorify Him, also prohibited from playing and talking except in a state of necessity and do not undress except the part that is feared to be unclean.

When urinating or defecating, cover yourself so that you are not seen by others, and move away so that the sound and smell of excrement are not heard and smelled by others, and do not face the Qiblah when urinating and turn your back when defecating.

In cases of urgency and necessity, we are allowed to depart from the above etiquette.

Do not urinate in water that does not flow, even if there is plenty of water, except in cases of necessity. It is also forbidden to urinate on hard ground and to urinate where the wind blows. If you can carry out the above provisions, then you will be saved from the torment of the grave.

You should always do istibra’, washing away the residue of urination, but not to the point of causing anxiety.

The way to do istibra’ is by clearing one’s throat and gently massaging the penis until one is sure that there is nothing left in it.

You should always urinate with a stone first and then with water. If you have to choose between the two, then water is preferable, and cleaning the qubul is preferable to water and then a stone.

After performing ritual ablution, recite:

“O Allah, guard my genitals from evil and purify my heart from hypocrisy.”

You should always do things with your right limb, except for removing impurities and dirt, or when entering dirty places, then put your left limb first.

Sneezing, spitting and closing vessels

If you sneeze, lower your voice, close your mouth and say Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin.

Do not spit, except towards the left or down the sole of the left foot.

You should always close your drink container and door, especially when going to bed and leaving the house.

Do not go to bed until you have extinguished the lights in the house or turned them down, especially oil lamps and the like.

If you find an open container of drinking water in the morning, do not drink or use it, because although it is pure, it may contain harmful substances.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Araby in his book, al-Futuhat, explains: “Verily, there is a secret night in the year, the night of the descent of some diseases upon the earth, which enter into open places and filled water containers.” ..:

Therefore, the Prophet recommended that every water container and vessel be covered. If there is nothing appropriate to use as a cover, cover it with wood or cloth while reciting Bismillahirrahmanirrahim and putting your trust in Allah. For indeed Allah loves those who put their trust in Him.

I’TIKAF

You should always sit in the mosque with the intention of Ftikaf, because the mosque is the house of Allah and the most beloved place to Him.

The Prophet’s words:

“The mosque is the home of every pious person.” (HIR. Thabrani)

“When you see someone who frequents the mosque, then (be) a witness to his faith.” (HR. Ahmad)

Allah Almighty says:

“Those who only use the mosques of Allah are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day.” (QS. at-Taubah: 18)

And the Messenger of Allah (saw) promised to include him among the seven groups of people whom Allah will shade under His Throne on the day when there will be no shade but His, saying: “…and the man whose heart always hangs on the mosque when he leaves it until he enters it again.”

If you are in the mosque, then make it a habit to sit politely, honor the mosque and do not speak uselessly, let alone forbidden things. If you want to talk about worldly affairs, leave the mosque.

Do not do anything in the mosque other than worship, because the purpose of building a mosque is to worship Allah SWT.

Allah Almighty says:

“(Men who glorify Allah) in the mosques which He has commanded to be honored and His name called therein morning and evening. Men who are not distracted by trade or commerce from the remembrance of Allah, from establishing prayer, and from paying alms. They fear a day (on which) hearts and visions will be shaken (they do so) that Allah may reward them (with a better recompense) for what they have done, and that Allah may increase His bounty upon them. And Allah provides sustenance to whomsoever He wills without limit.” (QS. an-Nur: 36-38)

If you enter the mosque, put your right foot first and recite the du’aa’:

“In the name of Allah. May salawat be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the door of Your mercy.”

Do not sit down until you have prayed tahiyatul masjid. If you do not pray, recite this four times:

“Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no God but Allah. And Allah is the Greatest.”

When going out, put your left foot first and read:

“In the name of Allah, may salawat be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the door of Your bounty. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil and his army.”

Azan and Iqamah

When you hear the call to prayer, answer the call the same way the muezzin said it, except for the words Hayya alash shalah and Hayya alal falah, so answer it:

“There is no power and no strength except with the help of Allah.”

At the Fajr prayer, when the muezzin calls out Ash-shalatu khairum. minannaum, then answer with:

“It is true and good what you say, and I am one of the witnesses in this matter.”

After answering the call to prayer, recite the salawat of the Prophet and then recite it:

“O Allah, the Lord of this perfect call and this prayer to be established, grant the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) a high degree and a noble rank, and grant him the praiseworthy position that You have promised him.”

Make a lot of supplications between the Adhan and the Iqamah, because supplications between these two times will not be rejected.

This is in accordance with the Prophet’s words,

“The supplication between the adhan and the igamah will not be rejected.” The Prophet taught with the following prayer:

“O Allah, I ask for health in this world and the hereafter.”

The above prayer is a collection of several prayers and is the most important prayer.

SOLAT

You should always hasten to pray at the beginning of the time, so that when the muezzin calls for prayer you are already in the mosque and in a state of ablution. If you are unable to do that, at least when the call to prayer is made, be ready to pray.

The Prophet’s words:

“The superiority of praying at the beginning of time over the end is like the superiority of the Hereafter over the world.” (al-Hadis)

“The beginning of time is the pleasure of Allah and the end of time is the forgiveness of Allah.”

You should always perform the rawatib prayers, the voluntary prayers performed before and after the fard prayers as recommended by the Messenger of Allah (saw).

Do not neglect the sunnah rawatib prayers. If you are unable to perform them, hasten to make them up.

Always pray solemnly, present your heart, stand properly, recite the verses of the Qur’an in tartil and reflect on their meaning. Perform ruku’, prostration and all the pillars of prayer perfectly. Pay attention to the sunnahs and manners of prayer, and avoid shortcomings and loss of perfection in prayer. If you can put the above information into practice, then your prayer will come out white and bright, and he will say, “May Allah preserve you as you have preserved me.”

On the other hand, if you do not practice it, then your solatmy will come out pitch black saying: ‘May Alluh waste you as you have wasted me.”

The Prophet said: “The amount of reward a person earns from his prayer depends on how solemnly he prays.”

Hasan al-Basriy said: “If a person does not have his heart present when he prays, then that prayer may hasten the punishment that is inflicted upon him.”

The accursed Satan tries his best to distract the person who is praying from remembering all kinds of worldly affairs that had not previously crossed his mind. The Satan aims to make the person face Allah by not being present in prayer. If the devil’s aim is successful, then the person will not be able to face Allah perfectly, even when he finishes praying, he will not get the reward, rather he will get the sin. Hence, the scholars recommend that we recite Surah Qul a’udzu birabbin nas before prayer, to fortify ourselves against the temptations of the devil.

And you should not make it a routine to recite certain surahs in your prayers after reciting al-Fatihah, unless there is a narration that recommends it, such as reciting Alif lam mim as sajdah and Hal ataa alal insan every Fajr prayer on Fridays.

Avoid reciting short surahs regularly in your prayers, such as Surah al-Kafirun, al-Ikhlas, and al-Muawwidzatain If you are an imam, then you may lighten your recitation based on the hadith of Muaz, that he once led a people and he recited a surah that was long enough that someone reported it to the Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah then rebuked him, “Are you going to be a slanderer, Muezz? Rather recite sabbihisma rabbikal a’la, wasy shamsi wa dhuhaaha wallaili idza yagh-syaa.”

It is also reported that the Prophet’s last congregational prayer was the Maghrib prayer, and the surah recited was al-Mursolat.

And it is Allah who guides whom He wills to the straight path.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

And be careful when praying in congregation, do not follow the Imam’s movements, preferably ahead of him In accordance with the words of the Messenger of Allah Saw.

“The one who descends (to bow and prostrate) and rises (from bow and prostration) before the Imām, his head is in the grip of the devil.” (al-Hadith)

You should always be in the first row even if you are crammed in, without hurting others while you have the ability to move forward.

The Prophet said:

“A people always retreat from the first line so that Allah will take away His mercy and bounty.” (al-Hadis)

“Verily, Allah is merciful and the angels ask for forgiveness from the front row, while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asks for forgiveness from the first row three times and from the second row once.” (al Hadith)

You should always close and straighten the rows, especially if you are acting as an imam, so you should also order the congregation to close the rows, and this is highly recommended in sharee’ah. But ironically there are many Muslims who ignore this issue.

The Messenger of Allah strongly urged the rows to be closed and straightened.

He said:

“Straighten your saf, otherwise Allah will scatter your hearts.”

He also ordered that the gaps that were still empty should be filled immediately.

The Prophet said:

“By the One who controls my soul, I saw the devil entering the cracks of the rows like a small goat.” (al-Hadis)

You should pray in congregation with istigamah. For indeed praying in congregation is better than praying alone by 27 degrees.

The Prophet’s words:

“Praying in congregation is better than praying alone by 27 degrees.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

Be afraid of leaving the congregational prayer without an excuse or with a poor excuse. If you are at the place of congregation or at home, invite them to pray in congregation with you, so that they can also get the reward and be saved from the threats addressed to those who leave the congregational prayer according to the words of the Messenger of Allah (saw)

“Let some people cease from forsaking the congregational prayer, or else I will set fire to their houses.” (al-Hadis)

“Whoever hears the call to prayer while he is in good health and there is nothing preventing him from performing it, but he does not come for the congregational prayer, his prayer will not be accepted.” (al-Hadis)

Ibn ‘Abbas said: “I have observed in our situation that no one leaves the congregational prayer except hypocrites whose hypocrisy is known.”

At the time of the Prophet, a man was carried by two of his friends to the Prophet and then entered the row to perform the congregational prayer.

Such is the severity of the threat for people who leave the congregational prayer. Especially for those who leave the Friday prayer, which is fardhu ain.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever misses the Friday prayer three times, Allah puts a mark on his heart (as a hypocrite).” (al-Hadis)

If you are unable to attend the congregational prayer or Friday prayer, then imagine that someone is distributing money in the place where the congregational prayer or Friday prayer is being held, and if you are then eager to attend, then your excuse is false. So be ashamed of Allah, for the treasures of this world are more honorable to you than what is in the sight of Allah.

It should be noted that an excuse that is justified by sharee’ah can cancel out a sin. But the reward cannot be obtained unless it is carried out.

Indeed, the reward can sometimes be earned by someone who is unable to attend the Friday prayer or the congregational prayer for some reason, such as having a bad stomach, being imprisoned by an oppressor and so on. The reward can also be earned even if there is no excuse for not attending, such as caring for a sick person. All of these are rewardable, provided that he is sad and concerned about missing the Friday prayer or the congregation.

The true believer will not abandon anything that brings him closer to Allah, even if there are a thousand excuses that allow him to abandon it, until he knows that abandoning the action is more favorable to Allah than doing it. That is why we see many of the ahlillah doing deeds that bring them closer to Allah that would be difficult for even a very large mountain to carry.

On the other hand, if a person has weak faith, little conviction and little knowledge of Allah, he will easily abandon his obligations and perform them only to avoid sin.

“Each one has a degree according to what he has done. And that Allah may reward them for their deeds, and that they may not be wronged.” (QS. al-Ahqaf: 19).

You should tell your dependents, such as your children, wives and slaves, to always pray. If any of them refuse to pray, advise and threaten them so that they will be afraid. If they still refuse to pray, beat them and punish them. If they still refuse to pray, then separate your relationship with them. Because those who neglect prayer are like devils who are far from the mercy of Allah and they are the ones who bring the wrath and curse of Allah. It is forbidden for any Muslim to associate with them and it is obligatory to hate them, because the Prophet said:

“The covenant between us and them is prayer. Whoever abandons it, then indeed they have become polytheists.” (al-Hadis)

“There is no religion for one who does not pray. Indeed, the example of prayer and religion is like the head and the body.” (al-Hadis)

On Friday you should take your time from worldly affairs and fill it with the busyness of the Hereafter. Do not occupy yourself, except for goodness and facing Allah Improve your muraqabah at the mustajabah time. The mustajabah time that occurs on Friday, a Muslim who asks Allah for good and asks Him for protection from evil, then Allah grants it.

You should set out for prayer before the sun leans towards the west, after entering the mosque then sit near the pulpit. When the sermon takes place listen carefully and do not occupy yourself with thoughts or other thoughts, let alone playing games driven by the whispers of lust. Realize that the advice and counsel given by the khatib is solely directed at you.

After the greeting remain in the tashahhud sitting position then recite Surah al Fatihah, al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas, 7 times each.

Before leaving read (. ) one hundred times. Because it is mentioned in a hadith, whoever does the above wirid after Friday prayer will get a very large reward from Allah SWT.

ZAKAT

You should hasten to separate the zakaah that you are obliged to pay from your basic wealth when the time comes, without delay. If you do this obligation with a sincere heart, solely seeking the pleasure of Allah, then blessings and goodness will descend upon you and your wealth will be protected from all calamities and disasters.

And avoid the behavior of those who love the world, which is that they do not separate the zakaah from the basic wealth, but give some of it every time they meet al-mustahig, until they reach the limit of their zakaah obligation. When harvesting dates or crops on which zakaah is due, you should not eat them until you have paid the required amount of zakaah. If you want to eat it, you should take the part that is not subject to zakaah.

You should know that the one who tries to evade the obligation of zakaah by giving it away or giving it to someone who is not entitled to it, even though he knows who is entitled to it, or distributing it with lust, such as giving zakaah to someone who will reward him immediately, then this person does not leave the world before being tortured with his wealth by Allah SWT.

Allah Almighty says:

“And surely the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they know.” (QS. az-Zumar: 26)

People who have paid zakat but do not comply with the provisions of the Shari’ah are still tortured, what about people who do not pay zakat? Allah has mentioned in the Qur’an,

“Those are they who buy misguidance for guidance, so their trade is not fortunate and they will not be guided.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 16)

The one who refuses to pay zakat is the same as the one who neglects to pray, which is a crime. In fact, Caliph Abu Bakr fought those who refused to pay zakat and categorized them as apostates.

It is obligatory for you to give zakat al-fitr on behalf of yourself and those for whom you are responsible, if you are able to do so.

You should always give charity to your immediate family and those who do good. This is because it cleanses your soul and increases the value of your reward.

Give in charity with the wealth that you love the most and that you love to spend because it is the wealth that will lead you to the peak of devotion, as Allah says in Surah Al-Imran verse 92:

“You will not attain to complete devotion until you give in charity some of the wealth you love.”

You should also always put the interests of others before your own, so that you will be classified as a successful person. Make a habit of giving charity in secret, because secret charity can reduce the wrath of Allah, has a seventy-fold thigh above open charity, and avoids riya’ which always nullifies the reward,

You should always give alms every day, even if it is a little. Give alms early in the morning, for it repels disaster and calamity.

Do not let a beggar stand at your door, give him something even if it is just a date, or even less than that. It is a gift from Allah to you. If you can’t find anything to give him, then gently refuse and promise to give him something another day. When giving, do so with pleasure and a beaming face. You should also realize that the beggar’s acceptance is a tribute to you, as he is willing to accept your meager wealth for which you will receive a great deal of reward. If you are willing to give up all your wealth on earth for the reward of that charity, then you are still in profit. It is also narrated that charity with a morsel of food has a greater reward in the sight of Allah SWT than the mountain of Uhud.

Do not be reluctant to give charity for fear of being poor, for it is actually charity that makes you rich. On the contrary, being reluctant to give charity can cause you to be poor so that a person who is left behind by the world, if he wants to start giving charity, the world will come to him.

Know that charity has many benefits in this world and the hereafter.

Some of the benefits obtained in the world include, among others, increased sustenance and lifespan, avoiding Su-ul khatimah. maintained health, property becomes blessed, and others.

While the benefits in the hereafter are erased sins like water extinguishes fire, the alms become the shade of his head protected from the punishment of Allah on the Day of Judgment, and so forth.

PRAYER

Fadilah of Ramadan

You should always multiply good deeds, especially in the month of Ramadan. This is because the reward of the voluntary acts of worship in that month is equal to the fard acts of worship in other months.

And in the month of Ramadan, there will also be ease and enthusiasm for doing good deeds that are rarely found in other months. This is because in the month of Ramadan the lust that is lazy to do good is imprisoned by hunger and thirst, the devil that prevents from good deeds is shackled, the gates of hell are closed and the doors of heaven are open. And every night a caller from the side of Allah calls out: “O ye who desire good, come, O ye who desire evil, cease!”

You should not occupy yourself except with the affairs of the Hereafter, avoiding worldly matters, unless it is absolutely urgent. Earn a living in other months to prepare for worship in Ramadan.

Tarawih Prayer and Lailatul Qadr Night

Focus your attention on the last ten nights of Ramadan, always draw close to Allah, and if possible do not leave the mosque for beri’tikaf, unless there is a very urgent need.

You should always perform the taraweeh prayer in Ramadan with solemnity. Not like the prayers that people do in a hurry so that they neglect the sunnahs and the pillars.

The scholars of the salaf used to recite the Qur’an gradually until they finished it at the end of Ramadan. If you are able to follow in their footsteps, then you will benefit greatly, and if you are not able to, then at least do the pillars perfectly and well.

Be diligent in worship in order to get the night of lailatul gadar, the night of glory, which is more glorious than a thousand months.

Whoever is guided by Allah about the night of the lailatul gadar will be able to see the light of the night of the lailatul gadar spread out, the doors of the heavens opening, the angels ascending and descending and the creatures prostrating themselves to Allah.

The majority of scholars are of the view: “The night of lailat al-gadar is between the 21st of Ramadan and the end of the month. And it is specific to the odd nights.”

Some makrifat people are of the opinion: “The night of the lailatul gadar occurs on the night of the 17th of Ramadan.”

The above opinion is also supported by Hasan al-Bashri. Some scholars are of the opinion: “The night of lailatul gadar occurs at the beginning of the night of Ramadan.” A group of major scholars ruled: “The night of the lailatul gadar is not fixed in time, it can move from month to month, and the wisdom of the secret night of the lailatul gadar is that those who believe in worshiping and obeying Allah are the only ones who can attain it.” Only Allah knows best.

Iftar and Sahur

You should always hasten to break your fast if you are certain that the time for Maghrib prayer has arrived. And conversely, you should always delay Suhoor if there is no doubt that the time for Fajr has arrived.

You should always give something to break your fast to a fasting person. Whoever gives it, even if it is a date or a sip of water, will receive the same reward as the fasting person, and it does not in any way diminish the fasting person’s reward.

Do not break your fast or give anything to break your fast except with lawful food.

You should always eat little and avoid delicious things, because the purpose of fasting is to curb your desires and train yourself not to eat delicious food.

Sunnah fasts

You should always observe the Sunnah fasts, such as: Arafat (9th of Dhul Hijjah) for those who do not perform Hajj, Ashura (10th of Muharram), Tashu’a (9th of Muharram), six days of Shawwal, preferably starting on the 2nd of Shawwal.

The four fasts above are very good for training and curbing lust.

Fasting three days every month, whose reward is comparable to fasting for a year. And it is best if you do it on the white days, which are the 13th, 14th and 15th. The Prophet always observed this fast whether he was at home or traveling.

Increase the number of absolute Sunnah fasts, especially during the noble months and days, such as Mondays and Thursdays.

Know, indeed fasting is a magic heirloom to destroy lust and a strong fortress to fight it. It is also narrated that fasting is half of Patience.

The Prophet’s words:

“Every human deed is multiplied ten times in reward, even up to seven hundred times.” Allah also emphasizes in the hadith gudsi:

“Every deed of man is for himself, except fasting. Because fasting is for Me and I am the one who directly rewards the deeds of those who give up their desire for food and drink, solely for Me. For those who fast have two happiness. First, the happiness when breaking the fast. The second is the happiness of meeting his Lord in the Hereafter, and the odor of the mouth of the fasting person is more fragrant in the sight of Allah than the oil of musk.”

Know that all the words of Allah are true and He is the One who makes the way for those who follow His guidance.

HAJI

You should perform Hajj as soon as you are able. Do not delay this good opportunity, because you may lose the ability and the opportunity due to death, so the obligations of Hajj and ‘Umrah will remain with you until you are included among those who are careless.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever does not have an urgent need, a serious illness, or a despotic ruler who prevents him from performing Hajj, and dies before performing Hajj, then he may die as a Jew or a Christian.” (al-Hadis)

You should always perform voluntary Hajj and Umrah.

Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith

“Verily, anyone to whom I have given health and wealth for five years and does not perform the Hajj, then that person is an evil person.”

Before performing Hajj, learn some of the Sunnah obligations and remembrances associated with it. Learn about the Ka’bah, the concessions made during the journey and the dhikr used therein.

You should not mix your Hajj with commerce, and you should not carry excessive wealth, except for living expenses during the journey, and stay away from things that can disturb your concentration on worship and glorifying the signs of Allah’s power.

Do not forget to make a pilgrimage to the Prophet’s grave, because making a pilgrimage after his death is the same as making a pilgrimage when he was alive. Indeed, the Prophet and the prophets before him have always lived.

It would be disrespectful for someone to perform Hajj without making a pilgrimage to his grave when he has no excuse that is justified by sharee’ah.

Be aware that even if you deliberately came from a distant Islamic country directly to make a pilgrimage to the Prophet, you would still not be able to fulfill the right of gratitude for the blessings of guidance that Allah gave you through His intercession.

Istikharah Prayer

You should always consult with someone who is trustworthy and of the same religion as you, when you are about to undertake an important matter, such as going far away or getting married, and if the signal is in accordance with your mind and heart, then pray two rak’ahs of Sunnah with the intention of praying Istikharah and then pray the prayer that is customary in the Istikharah prayer.

The Prophet said:

There will be no disappointment for the one who prays Istikharah and no regret for the one who deliberates.” (HR. Thabrani)

Vows You should make vows for the sake of Allah, such as prayer, charity, and so on. When the time for the vow comes, hurry to fulfill it.

Do not make a habit of making vows, for sometimes the devil deceives you into breaking them.

Oaths and Witnesses

If you take an oath to do something, and it appears that there is some good in failing to do it, or you take an oath not to do something, and it appears that there is some good in doing it, then you may break that oath, but you have to offer expiation.

Do not swear or bear witness on a hunch, even if it turns out to be true, let alone one based on doubt.

If you take someone else’s property by means of a false oath, you must return it and you must make up the expiation for the oath, which is to feed ten poor people, clothe them, and free a slave. If you are unable to do all three, then you must fast for three days.

Beware of false oaths that can lead to the destruction of some regions and places and dip the culprit into the pit of jahannam.

Do not be a false witness because false witness is one of the greatest sins. The Prophet even equated it with shirk.

Hiding true testimony is a grave sin. Then what is the sin of the one who falsifies it? Obviously greater and heavier.

WARA’

You should always be wara’, i.e. abstain from sin, immorality and shubhat (things that are not known to be lawful and unlawful).

Wara’ is the magic weapon of the upholder of religion. Wara’ is what characterizes scholars who practice their knowledge.

The Prophet’s words:

“Any meat that grows from haraam goods, then it is appropriate that it becomes the fuel of hell.” (Narrated by Hakim)

“Whoever avoids doubtful matters has purified his religion and honor. And whoever falls into doubtful matters has fallen into forbidden things.” (al-Hadis)

You know, the one who acquires something haram or shubhat, then he will get little taufig, the help of Allah to do righteous deeds. If he does do righteous deeds, then he will not be free from mental illnesses, in every action such as ujub and riya’.

To summarize, people whose food is haram, their deeds are rejected because Allah is good and does not accept anything except what is good.

The explanation is that no work can be done except by the movement of the limbs and the limbs cannot move without energy obtained from food. If the food is bad, then of course the energy obtained always tends to bad things as well.

Abdullah ibn Umar said: “If you pray continuously until your body is like the curve of a bow and fast until your body is like a rope, then Allah does not accept these two deeds, except with wara’ (abstaining from everything forbidden by Him).”

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever buys a shirt for ten dirhams and it contains one dirham of haram, Allah will not accept his prayer as long as he wears it.” (HR Ahmad)

Only a tenth of the clothes that contain haraam substances cause prayer to be invalidated. What if it is the whole thing, when the clothes are only a means of clinging to the outside of the body. What if the food we eat is haraam and has become integrated into the bones and joints and flows throughout the body?

Haram Division

Know that haram is divided into two, namely:

1 Haram because of its substance, such as carrion, blood, liquor, and so on. This first part is not permissible except under compulsion, such as there is nothing else to eat except these forbidden items, and if we do not eat them we will perish.

  1. Halal substances, such as wheat, water, etc., but they belong to someone else.

It remains haraam until it becomes yours in a way that is justified by sharee’ah, such as by sale, bequest, inheritance and so on.

Levels of Shubhat

There are three levels of doubt:

First, it is believed to be haram and doubtful about its permissibility. This shubhat is haraam.

Secondly, it is believed that it is permissible and doubtful that it is forbidden. It is wara if we are able to refrain from it.

Thirdly, the shubhat that is in between the two shubhats above, which means that there is doubt between halal and haram.

The Prophet’s words:

“Leave what you doubt for what you do not doubt.” (HR. Ahmad)

The wara’ person always avoids anything that is vague until it becomes clear. A person cannot reach the level of the muttagin until he has left the pure halal, for fear of something causing him to fall into haraam and shirk.

The Prophet said,

“A person will not reach the level of the muttagin so that he abandons something that does no harm, for fear of falling into that which is not harmful.

jeopardize.” (HR. Turmudzi)

The Companions said, “We left seventy permissible doors, for fear of falling into one forbidden door.”

However, it is a pity that this wara’ attitude has long been abandoned by people, who else among us is capable of wara’? Only the faith of Allah can guide us,

You should know everything that Allah has forbidden so that you can always avoid it. For if you do not know it, you can easily get caught up in it.

It should be noted that a person who has sufficient religious knowledge does not have to worry about falling into haraam activities, such as eating food that is forbidden by religion, robbing, plundering or stealing, because these acts are usually committed by despots, friends of the devil.

Some of the causes that lead to shirking.

Muslims fall into shirk because of three causes, namely: First, there is a lack of careful research in observing the three groups of people around us. These three groups include,

  1. A person whom you know to be obedient to Allah. So, if you are given food by him, do not ask whether the food is good or bad, halal or haram, but accept it and eat it.

  1. A person about whom you know nothing of his obedience, goodness and evil. If you associate with him and receive gifts from him in order to maintain your fairness, you should ask about him gently, but if your questions might offend him, then silence is the most appropriate course of action for you.

  1. People who are known to you for their injustice and evil, such as eating usury goods, defects in buying and selling, and not caring about where the money they have earned comes from.

So you should never cooperate with him. If you must, research and question him until you get an accurate answer in order to maintain your trustworthiness, and usually halal goods are rarely owned by people like this.

If you accept a haraam object based on concrete evidence, then reject it, even if it comes from the most pious person.

Secondly, lack of awareness of things that are haram and makruh.

Do not buy and sell except in the manner prescribed by sharee’ah. This is different from buying and selling worthless goods that are not subject to such procedures.

Avoid all forms of deception, lies and oaths in commerce. Do not hide any flaws in your merchandise, which, if known by the buyer, he will not want to buy it.

Also avoid buying and selling by means of usury, because usury is classified as the greatest sins. Allah SWT says,

“O you who believe, fear Allah and forsake the residue of usury (that has not been collected) if you are believers. But if you do not, then know that Allah and His Messenger will fight you.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 278-279)

The hadith explains:

“The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) cursed those who eat, delegate, record, and witness usury.” (al-Hadis)

In summary, the trade that can lead to usury is the sale of similar goods, such as gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, etc., except with the same measure and in cash.

If the goods being traded are of different types, such as gold for silver, dates for wheat, then it is permissible that the measurements are not the same, but it is obligatory to hand over the goods in cash.

It is not usury to trade animals for animals, clothes for clothes, and food for money.

And beware of hoarding staple foods (buying staple foods at a time of increased market demand and you store the goods so that the price rises or becomes expensive).

Third, being tempted by the pleasures, splendor and delights of the world. In this condition, it is difficult for a person to act wara even all his steps are always crushed by the temptation of temptation that exceeds the limit towards extravagance, while something that is halal does not go hand in hand with extravagance.

On the other hand, if a person seeks only to fulfill his basic needs, then it is very easy for him to be wara’.

Hujjatul Islam, Imam al-Ghazali said, “If you are satisfied with wearing coarse clothes for a year and eating two pieces of bread that are not delicious, then finding halal goods is very easy for you and you are not obliged to scrutinize all halal goods that come to your hand in detail. But do not forget to be vigilant and stay away from anything that is obviously haraam or has signs of haraamness attached to it.”

If there is any doubt in your heart about something that seems permissible, then leave it for the sake of your sanity. For, sin is the cause of anxiety in the heart.

This attitude is only found in the heart of a believer who has been illuminated with the light of faith.

Wara’ does not only prioritize food and clothing. Rather, it should be reflected in all aspects of life.

If you have in your hand food that is both lawful and more lawful or lawful with some doubt, then give precedence to the more lawful and the cleaner.

Be careful in choosing food, because all sources of energy and strength come from food. If the food comes from haram goods, it will certainly have a very strong influence on the formation of personality and illumination of the heart.

Some of the salaf said, “Eat whatever you want, just as you do whatever you want.”

Ibrahim ibn ‘Adham said, “Choose your food that is lawful, then it will not matter to you whether you do tajjud at night and fast during the day or not.”

Wabillahit Taufiq.

AMAR MAKRUF NAHI MUNGKAR

Evidence of Amar Makruf Nahi Munkar

You should always do what is right and forbid what is wrong, i.e. enjoining the good and forbidding the evil. This is one of the main pillars of religion, and it is why Allah sent down the Qur’an and sent His messengers. The scholars have ruled that enjoining the good and forbidding the evil is obligatory. This is based on the texts of the Qur’an and the traditions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Allah Almighty says:

“And let there be among you a people who call to good, enjoin the good and forbid the evil. And they are the lucky ones. ” (QS. Al-Imran: 104)

In another verse Allah SWT emphasizes,

“The disbelievers of the Children of Israel have been cursed by the mouth of the Prophet Dawud and the Prophet Jesus son of Mary. This is because they were disobedient and always transgressed. They did not forbid each other the evil they did. Indeed, very bad is that which they always do.” (QS. al-Maidah: 78-79)

In another verse Allah SWT also said:

“And guard yourselves against a punishment that does not fall exclusively on the wrongdoers among you.” (QS. al-Anfal: 25)

The Prophet’s words,

“Whoever among you sees an evil deed should prevent it with his power, if he cannot do that then with his tongue, and if he cannot do that then with his heart, i.e. by hating it, and that is the weakest of faith.” (HR. Ahmad from Abi Said)

The Prophet’s words,

“By the One in Whose hand is my soul, do you enjoin the good and forbid the evil, or does Allah send upon you a punishment, and then you pray to Him, and He does not answer your prayer?” (Hadith)

He also said:

“Not from my ranks is the one who does not love the younger and respect the older and does not speak the good and forbid the evil.” (Reported by Ahmad and Turmudzi from Ibn Abbas)

The Law of Amar Makruf Nahi Munkar

You should know that enjoining the good and forbidding the evil is fardu kifayah. If some have done it, then the obligation falls on the others. Meanwhile, the reward is only prioritized for those who call for it and enforce it. Conversely, if no one calls for it, then the burden of sin is borne by all mankind, especially those who have the ability to carry it out.

It is obligatory for you, when you see someone forsaking righteousness and doing wrong, to give him advice and threaten him. If he does not listen, then force and beat him and destroy the tools he uses to do evil such as vessels and bottles of liquor, and return the property and goods that he has seized to their rightful owners.

This method of violence can only be delivered by those who are truly willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of Allah or have received permission from the government, while the previous two methods are obligatory for every Muslim except for ignorant people who do not care about their religion and clever people who do not practice their knowledge.

It should be noted that commanding the performance of obligatory duties and forbidding prohibited actions is obligatory. Whereas commanding to do something Sunnah and forbidding a makrooh action is Sunnah.

The attitude of the preacher

If you have conveyed amar makruf nahi munkar, but it is not heard, ignored by people, then you should separate yourself from the evil and the culprit so that he returns to carrying out the commands of Allah SWT.

You should always hate disobedience and its perpetrators. Hating for the sake of Allah is obligatory for every believer. If you are mistreated and even mocked to the point that you become angry and your face changes, then realize that your faith is still weak, because you prefer fame, honor and wealth to your religion.

If you are sure that your da’wah will be ignored or even cause risk to yourself and your property, then you are allowed to remain silent, while the amar makruf nahi munkar which was originally obligatory in this situation, then this practice is the greatest practice done by the perpetrator for the love of Allah SWT.

But if you think that preventing the evil will cause more misery for others, especially Muslims, then silence is better, and sometimes even obligatory.

Mudahanah

Avoid mudahanah because mudahanah is a sinful act, namely not conveying what is right and forbidden for fear of losing material things, being demoted and being lulled by the benefits gained from those who practice evil and the wicked.

Methods of Preaching

You should always convey amar makruf nahi munkar sincerely for the sake of Allah, gently accompanied by compassion.

If these attributes are incorporated in a servant who always does what Allah commands and stays away from what He forbids, his words will certainly be heard, his advice will be memorable and none of his listeners will be able to refute his statements.

Whoever draws close to Allah, puts his trust in Him and adorns himself with compassion for his fellow servants of Allah, will not tolerate any kind of disobedience in front of him, so that he removes it or prevents it if he is unable to prevent it.

Ban on Spying

Do not spy on others to find out what they are doing wrong, especially your fellow Muslims.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever seeks the disgrace of his fellow Muslim, Allah will seek his disgrace so that Allah opens the disgrace in his house.” (al-Hadis)

Know that all hidden sins will not bring negative impacts, except for the perpetrators. But on the contrary, if the disobedience is spread, the disaster will descend evenly.

Uzlah (Self-Isolation)

If disobedience and evil have become rampant in your area and you feel desperate that your da’wah is not being heard, then you should isolate yourself and migrate to another place for the sake of safety, because the punishment that is revealed in a certain place will befall everyone, whether evil or good.

The punishment inflicted on those who believe and always help the religion of Allah is an expiation of sins and a mercy. For others, it is punishment and wrath from Allah. Wallahu A’lam.

ADIL

You should be fair to your subjects in particular and in general. Care for them and take good care of them. For Allah the fish holds you accountable and every shepherd will be asked about his shepherd.

Special People

The “Special People” are your seven limbs, namely the tongue, ears, eyes, belly, glory, hands and feet.

All of them are given to you by God so that you can shepherd them well. Because each part is a trust and entrustment from God entrusted to you.

You should always prevent them from disobedience and use every part of them for obedience to Allah, because the purpose of Allah creating them is only to obey Him. All trusts that are granted are blessings, so be grateful and obey all His commands and avoid all disobedience that He forbids. If you are not grateful for His favors, then you have replaced them with disbelief.

Had Allah not subdued and forced your limbs to obey you, you would not have been able to disobey and every limb would have warned you.

If you want to commit a sin, each part says, “O slave of Allah, fear Allah. Do not force me to commit an act of disobedience that Allah has forbidden.”

And when they have committed that sin, they immediately complain to Allah and say, “O Lord, we have not listened to your servant and have not heeded him, so we are not responsible for his actions.

In the hereafter, when it is your turn to be brought before the court of Allah, they will be the ones to bear witness to all your actions, good and bad on that day:

That cannot be denied, which comes from Allah. You will find no refuge on that Day, nor will you be able to deny (your sins).” (QS. ash-Shura: 47).

“(That is) on the Day when wealth and children will be of no avail, except for those who approach Allah with clean hearts.” (QS. ash-Shu’ara’: 88-89).

Common People

The common people here are those who are under your authority and responsibility, namely your children, wives and servants.

As for your duty towards them, it is to show them and guide them in fulfilling obligations and obedience and avoiding all forbidden things and disobedience.

Never let them neglect obligations and practice forbidden things. Lead them towards the glory and happiness of the Hereafter.

Complete their education and do not instill in them the love of this world and all its delights. It is mentioned in a hadith that a person’s children and wife will always hold him accountable in the presence of Allah SWT.

And they said, “O our Lord, surely he has not taught us of Your rights and what You have commanded us, therefore, punish him for his neglect of us.”

You should always be fair and wise towards your family by giving them their rights such as alimony, clothing and household harmony as well as warding off their abuses against other family members.

“And it is mentioned in the hadith: “There is a man listed as a tyrant (coercer) when he only rules over the family (has no power beyond that).”

Don’t demand too much of them for your personal rights. Be gentle and educate them with good manners. Encourage them to joke with you in their free time in a way that does not lead to sin, to relieve boredom and sadness while maintaining authority and respect.

You should always forgive their mistakes, and justify what they have taken. In the hereafter, you will be rewarded for your actions. The Prophet was once asked by the Companions, “How many faults should we forgive our slave?”, the Companions asked. The Prophet replied, “Seventy mistakes. But remember, the forgiveness given to them is everything related to your personal rights, while for the rights of Allah, there is no leniency and forgiveness that you should give.”

You should pay more attention to women, because they are weak in religious matters. Teach them the shar’i rulings that relate to menstruation, bathing, ablution, prayer, fasting and the rights of husband and wife.

Meanwhile, those who have a large number of people or followers, such as leaders and scholars, will also be held accountable for each of their people and followers.

Allah Almighty says:

“Verily, Allah has enjoined justice and good deeds…” (QS. an-Nahi: 90)

The Prophet’s words:

“O Allah, whoever controls something of the affairs of my people, is merciful (to them), then be merciful to him. And whoever brings misery upon them, bring misery upon himself.” (al-Hadis)

“There is no ruler who dies and deceives his people on the day of his death, but Allah forbids Paradise to him.” (al-Hadis)

Filial piety to both parents

You should always be dutiful to your parents because it is obligatory, and disobeying them is a major sin.

Great is Allah with His words:

“And your Lord has commanded that you should worship none but Allah and that you should do good to your parents…” (QS. al-Isra’: 23)

Allah SWT also said:

“Give thanks to Me and your parents.” (QS. Luqman: 14)

Think about it, how did Allah include the commandment of filial piety to one’s parents with monotheism to Him, and gratitude to both of them with gratitude to Him?

You should always seek their pleasure and do their commands as long as they are not sinful, avoid their prohibitions as long as they do not prohibit obligatory obedience, and put their interests above your own.

One of the traits of disobedience is hurting them and not giving them something that you can actually do. Especially if you are surly and yell at them.

The Prophet’s words:

“The odor of Paradise can be smelled from a journey of a thousand years, but it cannot be smelled by the one who dares his parents, the breaker of relatives, the old man who commits adultery, and the one who takes off his sarong (beyond the limit), because of his pride. For indeed, pride belongs only to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Whoever gains the pleasure of his parents, while he does something that earns My wrath, then I am pleased with him. And whoever earns the wrath of his parents and does something for which I am pleased, I will be angry with him.” (al-Hadis)

A father should help his children to be devoted to him by not demanding too much of their rights, especially in an age like this, where devotion to parents is few and disobedience is rampant everywhere. Finally: parents think that the best child is the one who never hurts them. The Prophet’s words:

“Allah is merciful to a father who helps his son to serve him.” (Reported by Ibn Hibban from Ali ibn Abi Talib)

Friendship

You should always stay in touch with the closest of your family, then others, as well as the neighbor closest to your door, then others.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him. And do good to parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, near neighbors and far neighbors.” (QS. an-Nisa’: 36)

The Prophet’s words:

“Charity to relatives is the charity of the family link.” (al-Hadis)

He also emphasized:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him establish family ties.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him Honor his neighbor.” (al-Hadis)

“The Angel Gabriel used to advise me about my neighbor’s affairs so that I feared that he might inherit.” (al-Hadith)

Friendship and doing good to one’s neighbors does not achieve perfection except by refraining from harassing them, patiently accepting their harassment, and doing good to them with all one’s might.

The Prophet’s words:

“You don’t connect relatives just by giving back. Rather, the liaison is the reconnection of family ties that have been broken.” (al-Hadis) The Messenger of Allah (saw) emphasized:

“Position yourself to do good when mankind is doing good. And do not do evil when they do evil.”

Wabillahit taufiq.

LOVE AND HATE BECAUSE OF ALLAH

You should always love and hate for the sake of Allah, for this is the bond of faith.

The Prophet’s words:

“The best of deeds is to love for the sake of Allah and hate for the sake of Allah SWT” (HR. Abu Dawud from Abi Dzar)

If you love the obedient servant because of his obedience and hate the wrongdoer because of his disobedience without any other purpose, then you are truly among those who love for the sake of Allah and hate for the sake of Allah. On the other hand, if you do not love the virtuous for the good they do and hate the evil-doers for the evil they do, then know that your faith is weak.

Be friendly

Always befriend the good and avoid every evildoer. Associate with the righteous and stay away from the wrongdoers.

The Prophet said:

“The quality of a person’s religion depends on his close friends. Therefore, know with whom he associates and befriends.” (al-Hadith)

He also said:

“The company of the righteous is better than solitude, and solitude is better than the company of the wicked.” (al-Hadis)

Know that hanging out with good people will instill love in your heart for them and encourage you to follow in their footsteps, just as hanging out with bad people will always inspire you to imitate their actions.

When a person associates with a people, whether in virtue or disobedience, he will naturally love that people. And as we know, everyone will always be with those he loves in this world and the next.

Always be gentle and compassionate with your fellow creatures of Allah, and never be harsh and harsh with them.

The Prophet’s words:

“Verily, Allah loves His servants who are gentle. And whoever does not love his neighbor will not be loved by others.” (HR. Thabrani)

He also said:

“A believer is one who is willing to love and befriend his neighbor. And there is no good for the one who does not love and befriend.” (al-Hadis)

Education

You should also educate the ignorant, show the straight path to those who have gone astray and warn those who are carried away by the deceptions of the world.

Do not abandon these deeds and say, “The only ones who are able to teach and remind are scholars who practice their knowledge. I am not one who is capable of doing so. And I am not able to show others the way, because that ability is only possessed by religious figures of good character.” These words are the whispers of the devil who is always tempting.

Education and guidance are a series of deeds that are always based on knowledge. They will not become religious leaders, except by the grace of Allah, practicing knowledge in obedience to Allah and pointing people to the path of Allah. If you feel that you are not fit for that, then that is fine. What is reprehensible is the one who calls to the wrong path.

Comforting Others

You should comfort those who are sad, be kind to the weak, encourage those who are afflicted with poverty, provide solutions to those who have problems in life, and lend money to those who are in debt. It has been narrated that the reward of the giver of debt exceeds the reward of the giver of charity by seventy times. Debt here has an added value, because a person will not go into debt unless he is in a very urgent situation. You should always visit the afflicted.

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever visits a person who is afflicted with a calamity in order to comfort him, he will have the same reward as the afflicted person.” (HR: Turmudzi from Ibn Mas’ud)

Do not feel happy if one of your Muslim brothers has been afflicted with a calamity. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said,

“Do not rejoice if one of your brothers suffers a calamity, for Allah will soon give him health and inflict His calamity on you.” (HR: Turmudzi from Watsilah)

Never reproach your Muslim brother who has committed a sin. For whoever denounces his brother’s sin does not pass away until he has received the due punishment from Allah.

You should always give a way out to those who are afflicted by calamity, help those who are in need and cover the shame of those who commit sins.

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever makes it easy for someone in distress, Allah makes it easy for him. Whoever covers the faults of a fellow Muslim, Allah covers his faults in this world and the Hereafter. And whoever makes a way out of the distress of a fellow Muslim in this world, Allah makes a way out of his distress on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever helps his brother in his need, Allah will help him in his need. And Allah helps a person as long as he helps his brother.” (al-Hadis)

Eliminate Road Nuisances

You should always remove any obstacles in the path of the Muslims, whether they are thorns or dirt, because this is one of the branches of faith.

The Prophet’s words:

“I saw a man walking in Paradise, in return for cutting down a thorny branch that was blocking the path of the Muslims.” (al-Hadis)

Loving orphans

You should always love and rub the head of an orphan with affection.

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever wipes the head of an orphan, Allah records for him for each hair ten virtues.” (al-Hadis)

You should always please and gladden the hearts of the believers in any way without any sinful element in it.

You should not hesitate to reach out and help anyone who needs something from another person who has a position and you happen to have influence on that person. Allah SWT always holds a person accountable for the position and wealth that has been granted to him.

Never ask for legal aid or leniency for someone who has violated Shari’ah laws such as adultery and theft, as this is prohibited by religion.

After you have done a favor for someone, then he comes to you with a gift in return for your favor, so refuse the gift that is a bribe.

Friendly to others

You should smile, have a cheerful face, always look happy, speak kindly, be gentle and humble towards every believer.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“And be blessed with those who believe” (QS. al-Hijr: 88)

The Prophet’s words:

“Do not underestimate the value of a sug by showing a cheerful face to your Muslim brother.” (al-Hadis)

He said:

“Good speech is charity.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“When two Muslims meet and shake hands, a hundred blessings are distributed between them, of which ninety are given to the one who shows more happiness.” (al-Hadis)

Severing ties with fellow Muslims

Do not break your ties with your fellow Muslims for personal gain, except for the sake of religion, and do not do that for more than three days.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever cuts ties with his brother for more than three days, Allah will send him to Hell unless Allah has mercy on him.” (al-Hadis)

This three-day time limit applies only to punishment with the intention of educating and minor problems, but if our brother is constantly practicing falsehood and deviating from the truth, then there is no limit to our severing ties with him unless he returns to the truth.

Social Order

You should always show happiness and joy upon hearing of new developments that are beneficial to the Muslims, such as the rains, falling prices and victories gained over the disbelievers and wrongdoers.

On the contrary, you should be saddened and concerned if the Muslims are afflicted with misfortune, prices rise dramatically, and fitnah is rampant. In these circumstances, you should turn to Allah with complete submission to His qadha and qadar.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever is not concerned about the affairs of the Muslims is not one of them.” (al-Hadis)

In another saying:

“The example of believers in affection and mutual sympathy is like a body. If one of its members complains of fever because of illness, then the others come in solidarity in the form of fever and insomnia.” (Reported by Ahmad and Muslim from Nu’man bin Bashir)

“If a Muslim does you a favor, then thank him, be grateful, and return the favor. If you are unable to repay him or he is not impressed by it, then you should pray for him.”

He said:

“If I were given goat bones or gizzards, I would certainly accept, And if I were invited with a dish of goat bones or gizzards, I would certainly attend the invitation.”

He said:

“Whoever does good to you, then repay him in kind. If you are unable to do so, then pray for him, so that you may know that your prayer can truly compensate him.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Whoever says to someone who helps him, ‘May Allah reward you with good’, has truly been thanked.” (al-Hadis)

Refuse to Give

Do not hurt a Muslim’s heart by rejecting what he gives, knowing that everything in his hands is essentially from Allah. He is only an intermediary.

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever is given something without asking for it or desiring it and rejects it has rejected the gift of Allah.” (al-Hadis)

As for the rejecters, there is a great disaster.

Most of the common people always glorify those who refuse gifts, sometimes some worshipers are driven to refuse gifts by the argument of zuhud, but behind that they want a position among the common people. Therefore, the muhaggigin receive gifts openly and then give them back in secret.

Under certain circumstances, you are obliged to refuse a gift from someone if you know and foresee that it is a haram item.

When you receive zakaah and the giver thinks that you are entitled to it, but this is not the case. If the giver is always unjust and you are afraid that if you accept his gift your heart will tend to follow his actions and oppose the teachings of religion, and you are sure that if one day you accept his gift he will no longer accept all your words that lead to the truth.

If you are aware of a gift that is intended to mislead you, to help you do what is wrong, and to prevent you from doing what is right. In this case, giving goods from judges or government officials confiscated from two people who are in dispute is also haraam, because these goods are considered bribes. Therefore, you should be careful and refuse all the gifts described above.

Prayer

Do not supplicate against yourself, your children, your wealth, or any of the Muslims even if they have wronged you,

The Prophet’s words:

“Do not supplicate with unkind supplications for yourself, your children, and your wealth, then you will not find a time that is mustajabah.” (al-Hadis)

Anathema

Do not hurt and criticize your fellow Muslims without a religiously justified reason.

The Prophet said,

“Whoever harms a Muslim has indeed harmed me. And whoever harms me, harms Allah.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Insulting a believer is wicked and persecuting him is disbelief.” (HR. Ahmad)

Never curse a Muslim, a servant or even an animal. Nor should you curse someone directly unless you are certain that he has died a disbeliever, like Pharaoh and Abu Jahal, or you have known that Allah’s mercy will not reach him, like the devil.

You should know that when the word Jaknat comes out of the mouth of a servant, it rises to the heavens, then the doors of the heavens are closed, then it descends to the earth because the doors of the earth are also closed, then it comes to the person who is cursed if ja is appropriate, otherwise the curse will eventually return to the curser.

Ukhuwah Islamiyah

You should be hospitable and loving to your fellow Muslims, showing your good deeds and covering up your bad deeds. You should also reconcile with one another, for this habit is more virtuous than praying and fasting. Especially between parents and children and other close relatives.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“Verily, those who believe are brothers. Therefore make peace between your brothers.” (QS. al-Hujurat: 10)

Namimah and Ghibah Avoid all forms of Namimah and Ghibah because they are the main causes of strife and enmity, both of which are major sins in the sight of Allah SWT.

Namimah is speaking ill of someone to another person with the intention of damaging their relationship.

The Prophet’s words:

The one who is a master of backbiting will not enter Paradise.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“(Of you) more wrathful to Allah is the one who goes about dividing and separating between brothers.” (al-Hadis)

Ghibah is talking about someone’s badness that if he hears and knows about it, he will feel humiliated. Gossip can be in the form of speech, gesture and writing.

The Prophet’s words:

“Every Muslim is unlawful to another Muslim in blood, property, and honor.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Gossip is a greater sin than adultery.” (al-Hadis)

Allah Almighty said to Prophet Musa:

“Whoever dies repenting of gossip is the last to enter Paradise. And whoever dies while gossiping is the first to enter Hellfire.” (al-Hadis)

Injustice

Do not be unjust and arbitrary because unjust actions can cause darkness on the Day of Judgment, especially to the servants of Allah SWT because Allah will never tolerate these heinous acts.

The Prophet’s words:

“Verily, the most deprived of my Ummah is the one who comes on the Day of Resurrection with many good deeds. Because he had beaten, abused and taken people’s property, the people demanded it. Then all his good deeds are taken away to be given to them. If his good deeds are exhausted, then all their sins will be given to him instead. In the end, he is thrown into Hell.” (al-Hadis)

If you have already wronged someone, be ashamed to hasten to hand over din for punishment, if it relates to the soul: ask for permission from him, if the injustice is related to honor: and return everything you have taken from him if the form of injustice is material (property).

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever has wronged his brother, let him ask for forgiveness from him before the day comes when dinars and dirhams will no longer exist except for good and bad deeds.” (al-Hadis)

If you are really unable to return some of the things you have taken and wronged, you should repent and always ask Allah SWT so that the party you wronged is willing to forgive it, and multiply prayers and ask Allah for forgiveness for the sins he has committed.

You should always take care of the safety, honor and property of every Muslim, whether they are present or not, just as you would take care of yourself. For whoever helps his Muslim brother, Allah will help him, and whoever neglects his fellow Muslim, Allah will also neglect him.

SINCERITY IN GIVING ADVICE

You should always give sincere advice to every Muslim so that you do not hide anything from him that can point him to the path of goodness and keep him away from evil,

The Prophet’s words:

“Verily, religion is advice,” (HR Ahmad) Be sincere in advising your fellow Muslims in their presence and absence.

Do not exaggerate your sincere feelings in your speech with the true feelings in your heart. If you are in consultation with your fellow Muslim brother and you find out that he is wrong, then tell him what you think is right.

Hasud

One of the traits that is very contrary to one’s sincerity is the nature of hasud or envy when seeing other people given pleasure from Allah.

This despicable trait stems from a sense of displeasure when seeing other people get pleasure and gifts from Allah SWT, both worldly and religious. Then hope that the favor will soon disappear from its owner.

The Prophet said,

“Verily, envy consumes good deeds like fire consumes firewood.” (al-Hadis)

The one who is envious is challenging Allah’s authority and rule, as if he is saying, “O my Lord, you have placed a favor that is not in its place!” But there is nothing wrong if you see the blessings of Allah bestowed on someone else, then you pray and ask Him to grant you the same favors as him, and that is not prohibited by religion.

Attitude When People Praise You

You should not feel happy when you receive praise from others. If the praise is appropriate to your situation, read it:

“Praise be to Allah, the One who reveals the good and conceals the bad.”

If the praise does not suit your situation, then pray the supplication that the salaf used to make.

“O Allah, do not punish me for what they say. Forgive my sin, for something they do not know. And make me better than they think I am.”

As for yourself, you should never praise someone unless that praise makes him more active in practicing good values, or the person you praise is a great person whose virtues you do not know. All praise should be free of lies and should not cause pride in the person being praised.

How to Counsel Others

If you wish to advise another person in a certain matter, then take him to a quiet place away from the crowd and advise him with gentle words. Do not use direct words, rather use insinuations that are easy to understand, and if he asks who told you about what he did, then do not tell him, as this may cause enmity between them.

If he accepts your advice, then praise Allah and thank Him. If it is not accepted, then return the advice to yourself and say to it: O lust that leads to evil.”

“The cause of not receiving advice is yourself. Examine yourself, perhaps you have not fulfilled some of the requirements.”

Trust and Betrayal

If you are entrusted with something, you should take better care of it than you would of your own property.

Always fulfill your trust, and avoid any form of betrayal.

The Prophet’s words:

“There is no faith for the one who does not fulfill the trust.” (HR. Ibn Najjar)

He also emphasized:

“Three things that are always hanging on the ‘Arsh:

– The wisdom that says, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You so that I may not be denied,”

– The relative who said, “O Allah, I seek refuge with You so that my relationship will not be severed.”

– The mandate that says, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You so that I will not be betrayed.”

Honest

You should always speak the truth and keep your promises. Because violation and reneging on promises is one of the signs of hypocrisy. The Prophet said:

“The signs of a hypocrite are three: When speaking he lies, when promising he breaks, when trusted he betrays.”

Another narration reads, “When he promises, he deceives. And when he is hostile, he is not chivalrous.” (al-Hadis)

Avoid debates and arguments, for these are the things that inflame the anger in the breast, trouble the heart, cause enmity and hatred for one another.

If in the debate it turns out that the other person’s opinion is correct, then accept that opinion. This is because truth is something that should be followed. But if the other person’s opinion is wrong and false, then turn away from him because he is a fool.

This is in accordance with the words of Allah SWT which reads:

“And turn away from those who are foolish.” (QS. al-A’raf: 199)

Joking and Honoring Fellow Muslims

Do not joke too often. If your jokes are meant to amuse your fellow Muslims, then avoid any false speech and always speak the truth.

The Prophet’s words:

“Do not reproach your brother. Do not joke and do not make promises that you do not keep.” (HR. Turmudzi from Ibn Abbas)

You should always honor and glorify your fellow Muslims, especially the salihin and their descendants and the elderly.

Do not frighten, threaten or ridicule your Muslim brothers or look at them with disdain, because these are all part of reprehensible morals.

The Prophet said:

“It is sufficient for a person to be evil if he insults his Muslim brother.” (al-Hadis)

Humble and Arrogant

You should be humble, for this is the character of every believer.

Avoid being arrogant because Allah dislikes those who are arrogant.

Whoever is humble, Allah will raise his rank. As for those who are arrogant, Allah will bring them down to the lowest level.

The Prophet said,

“There will not enter Paradise anyone in whose heart there is even an atom of pride.” (al-Hadis)

He said:

“Arrogance is a rejection of the truth and an insult to people.”

Whoever looks at himself as superior and looks at others with contempt, then he belongs to the arrogant.

Some specific signs that distinguish the traits of the proud and the inferior:

“That Allah may separate the bad from the good.” (QS. al-Anfal: 37)

The signs of a humble person are that he prefers to be an unpopular person and does not like to be popular, accepts the truth from anyone whether from the honorable or the lowly, loves the poor, and likes to gather and sit with them. Like to fulfill the interests of others as perfectly as possible, thank those who pay attention to the rights that are imposed on them and forgive those who neglect them. Meanwhile, the characteristics of arrogant people are that they always want to be the leader in every assembly and meeting. Ambitious to be superior to their colleagues, always pretentious and happy to praise themselves, big mouth, often bragging and always demanding the rights of their colleagues.

GIVING AND ANSWERING GREETINGS

Greet every Muslim, whether you know him or not. If you greet someone and he does not respond to your greeting, then do not be quick to assume that he did not hear your greeting or maybe he did but I did not hear him.

When you enter your house, greet your family. And when you enter a mosque or an uninhabited house, say: “May prosperity be upon us and the righteous servants of Allah”.

When you meet your Muslim brother, try to precede the greeting.

The Messenger of Allah was once asked by one of his Companions regarding this issue, “O Messenger of Allah, when a Muslim meets his brother, which of them is better in the sight of Allah?”

“The one who says the greeting first”, replied the Prophet. In addition, the Prophet also said:

“The one who rides should give precedence in greeting to the one who walks, the one who stands to the one who sits, the young to the older, and the few to the many.” (al-Hadis)

Praying for people who sneeze, enter other people’s houses, etc.

You should always pray for the person who sneezes if he has said Alhamdulillah and if he has not said it, then remind him with Hamdalah.

You should never enter another person’s house without getting permission from the occupants. If you ask for permission three times and still do not get it, then go home and repeat it another time.

If a Muslim calls you, then answer his call with the words, “I am ready to come”.

And if you are invited by him to a meal, then fulfill his invitation unless there is a shar’i excuse.

If you are asked by someone to do something by saying “By Allah” then do your best to refuse the request as long as it is not in disobedience, and do not ask others for something by saying “By Allah”, and be careful to refuse if you are asked by others by saying “By Allah”.

The Prophet said:

“Cursed is the one who is asked for something in the name of Allah and does not fulfill it.” (al-Hadis)

You should always visit the sick, take the dead to the cemetery and stay in touch with your Muslim brothers and sisters when you miss them.

Shake hands when you meet them and ask them about their affairs. If you do not see one of them because of illness, then visit him. And if he is busy with his work and needs help, then help him as much as you can, and if you are unable to help him, then you should pray for his success.

Be Kind

Make it a habit to be kind to every Muslim, and avoid any ill-will towards them.

The Prophet’s words:

“The two things upon which there is no good are being kind to Allah and being kind to His slaves. And the two things upon which there is no evil are prejudice against Allah and prejudice against His slaves.” (al-Hadis)

The most you can do for a Muslim is to believe that there is no evil in what he does and says, while you still find the truth in him. However, if you find them committing sins, then you should try to prevent them from doing so, assuming that the faith in their hearts is still capable of stopping them from committing sins, followed by sincere repentance.

The criterion for prejudice against fellow Muslims is believing that there is something bad in their words and deeds, even though outwardly they appear to be good. For example, when you see someone who is diligent in praying and giving alms, then you think that he does all these things only to gain praise from others and to gain wealth and position.

We will not find this kind of prejudice except in the rotten iwajiwa that adorns the hypocrites.

Allah Almighty says:

(The hypocrites) are those who criticize the believers who give charity willingly…” (QS. at-Taubah: 79)

Dhikr and Prayer

The Prophet said:

“Make so much remembrance that the hypocrites will say, ‘You are riya’.” (HR. Ahmad)

Pray and ask forgiveness for yourself, your parents, your relatives, your relatives and your friends in particular, and for every Muslim in general.

The Prophet’s words:

“There are two supplications that are not veiled between them from Allah. First, the supplication of a persecuted person. The second is the supplication of a Muslim for his brother without his knowledge.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“When a Muslim prays for his brother in his absence, the angel will say: ‘May Allah fulfill your prayer, and you will get what he got.'” (al-Hadis)

Maimun b. Mihran said:

“Whoever seeks forgiveness for his parents after every obligatory prayer is truly thankful to them, and this is in accordance with what Allah commands in His words: “Anisykur lii waliwalidaika” (give thanks to Me and to your parents). And whoever asks forgiveness for the Muslims and Muslim women every day twenty times, then he is among those whose prayers are always answered and given sustenance like rain from the sky. These are the qualities of the saints.”

Rights of fellow Muslims

You should know that the rights of fellow Muslims are many:

Treat the Muslims in their presence or absence as you would like them to treat you. Try and make up your mind to like good for them as you like it for yourself, and dislike bad for them as you dislike it for yourself.

The Prophet said:

None of you has faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

He also said:

“Fellow Muslims are like one building, which strengthens one another.” (al-Hadis)

Yahya bin Mu’adz Saw said:

“If you are unable to make your Muslim brothers happy, then do not grieve them. And if you are unable to praise your neighbor, then do not reproach them.”

Shaykh Muhyiddin Abdul Qadir al-Jailani said:

“You should relate to Allah as if there were no other creatures around you. And relate to your fellow creatures of Allah as if you were not among them.”

Some of the salaf said:

“Every human being must be afflicted with misfortune and some are always blessed with health, so pity those who are afflicted with misfortune and trials, and be grateful for the health and enjoyment bestowed by Allah SWT.”

TOBAT

You should always repent of every small or big sin, real or hidden. Because repentance is the first step of a servant towards the path of Allah SWT and repentance is also the basis of every charity in the side of Allah, and He also loves those who repent. This is in accordance with His words:

“Verily, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 222)

Allah SWT also said:

“And repent to Allah, O you who believe, that you may prosper.” (QS. an-Nur: 31)

The hadith states:

“He who repents of sin is like one who has not sinned.”

Know that a repentance will not be valid if it is not followed by abandoning the sin, regretting it and resolving not to repeat it during one’s lifetime.

The signs of one who repents sincerely are:

He is soft-hearted, cries a lot, is steadfast in his adherence to religion, leaves his evil friends and stays away from places of sin.

Don’t linger in sin and not repent immediately and return to the way of Allah.

It is obligatory for every believer to abstain from all forms of disobedience, whether minor or major, just as you abstain from burning fire, boiling water and all kinds of deadly poisons.

The true believer will never choose a form of sin and will not talk about and intend to commit sins that have not yet occurred.

Nor should he be proud of having fallen into sin. Rather it is incumbent upon him to cover and abhor those sins and hasten to repent.

Renew your repentance every time, because every human being cannot be free from many and varied sins physically and mentally, and it is very difficult for you to always be good and always be in obedience.

The Prophet himself, who was always awake and protected from sin, asked Allah for forgiveness more than seventy times every day.

As a weak servant, you should always multiply istighfar day and night, especially during the sahur meal.

The Prophet said:

“Whoever makes a habit of asking for forgiveness, Allah will give him happiness in every sorrow, show him a way out in his narrowness, and bestow on him unexpected sustenance.” (al-Hadis)

Say it often:

“Forgive me and accept my repentance. Indeed, You are the Most Receptive to repentance and the Most Merciful.”

Some Companions narrated that the Prophet used to say ighfirli (forgive me) at least a hundred times in every gathering.

You should always use the remembrance of Prophet Yunus, namely:

“There is no God but You. Glory to You, I am indeed one of the wrongdoers.”

It is also narrated that the dhikr includes Ismullahil a’dzam, the great names of Allah. Therefore, whoever recites it regularly, Allah SWT will remove all distress and pain, and replace it with the happiness he craves.

Allah Almighty says:

“So We have answered his prayer and saved him from grief. And thus We save those who believe.” (QS. al-Anbiya’: 88)

Hope and Fear

You should increase your feelings of hope and fear, hope here means always wanting the mercy of Allah and always fearing the punishment of Allah, because these two traits are the noblest traits of belief.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“Those whom they call, they themselves seek the way to their Lord, which of them is nearer (to Allah) and hopes for His mercy and fears His punishment; surely the punishment of the Lord is something to be feared.” (QS. al-Isra’: 57)

In a hadith qudsi, Allah says:

“I depend on the presumption of My servant. So be content in your prejudice toward Me.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

In another hadith qudsi, Allah SWT also says:

For the sake of My glory, I do not gather upon My servant two trials and two fears. If My servant feels secure from Me in the life of the world, I will give him fear on the day My servants rise from the grave. And if My servant fears Me in the life of this world, I will prosper him on the day of the gathering of My servants.” (HR. Abu Nw’aim)

Raja (hope) is the heart’s realization of the extent of Allah’s mercy, generosity, majesty, excellence, and the goodness of His promises for those who obey Him.

From this makrifat arises a state of happiness called raja and the results achieved from this trait are competing in doing good and really maintaining obedience to Allah, because he has known that obedience is one of the ways that connects himself with the pleasure and paradise of Allah SWT.

Khauf (fear) is the realization of the heart of the majesty of Allah, the pain of His punishment on those who are constantly indulging in sins and disobedience and neglecting His commandments.

The results achieved from this khauf trait are leaving all forms of disobedience and trying as much as possible to stay away from it because he realizes that it is the disobedience that leads him to the wrath and punishment of Allah SWT.

Any hope that does not motivate one to do good deeds and any anxiety that does not motivate one to avoid disobedience are both useless and meaningless in the religious life of any person, according to some people of understanding. For whoever hopes for something will seek it, and whoever fears something will run away from it.

There are three groups of people in connection with hope and anxiety First, people who have repented to Allah SWT, calm and peaceful when they are always with Him and all the whispers of lust that are in them disappear with the light of their approach to Allah.

He will never feel the taste of life except by seeking Allah and will never feel happy except when he is in contact with Him.

In this state, his hope turns into longing and love for Allah, while his anxiety becomes a sense of reverence and fear of Allah.

Secondly, the man who is unable to keep himself from always carrying out the commandments and even tends to do things forbidden by Him. For this type of person, he should be able to balance his hopes and worries like two wings of a bird whose ability to fly is always balanced.

The Prophet said,

“If the anxiety and hope of a believer were weighed, they would be equal.” (al-Hadis)

Indeed, most believers have the same level of balance between hope and anxiety.

Thirdly, a person who has been ruled by negligence and is unable to distinguish between lawful and unlawful, so this type of person should emphasize his anxiety rather than his hope that he can avoid all disobedience, except when he is about to die, then he should emphasize his hope.

The Prophet’s words:

“Indeed, there should not pass away any one of you unless he thinks well of Allah (i.e. thinks that Allah forgives his sins).” (HR: Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah)

Limit your talk of raja’ (hope) when you are in dialogue with a layperson. You should explain to him that raja’ is a great promise and reward from Allah that is given to those who persevere in doing good and try to leave all forms of disobedience.

Avoid long conversations about absolute raja’ (unconditional hope), such as you saying: “Man always sins and God must forgive him. If there were no sins, there would be no sight of God’s forgiveness and mercy. And if you compare the number of sins of people past and present with God’s mercy, it is like a drop of water in a vast and deep ocean.”

The above statement is true, but it is very dangerous for an ordinary person who is unable to understand it so that he falls into sin and if that happens, then you are the cause of the sin.

Do not despair of Allah’s mercy and do not feel safe from His punishment, for both of these traits are major sins.

“No one despairs of the mercy of his Lord except those who go astray.” (QS. al-Hijr: 56)

“None are secure from the punishment of Allah except the losers.” (QS. al-A’raf: 99)

Al-Qunuth (despair) is a reflection of anxiety and fear without hope, while al-Aman (security) is an excessive sense of hope by leaving behind anxiety and fear.

These hopeless people deliberately leave obedience and devotion to Allah SWT because they believe that worship is useless. On the contrary, people who feel safe from Allah’s azah and always commit sins and feel that all their sins will not have a negative impact on themselves.

We always seek refuge in Allah from the peak of evil and misery.

Wish for Forgiveness

Avoid idle fantasies of earning Allah’s forgiveness because doing so will not earn it.

This wishful thinking usually arises when you hear the words of those who have been deceived such as: “Verily Allah has forgiven every sin and He has no need of us and our deeds, His treasuries are filled with goodness and His mercy is vast and encompasses everything.” While they are constantly in disobedience and always abandon righteous deeds.

It is as if they are saying, “Every obedience is of no benefit and every disobedience is of no harm.” This is a saying that contains a great lie.

Allah Almighty says:

“Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil, he will also see his reward.” (QS. az-Zalzalah: 7-8)

Allah also affirms:

“And to Allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may recompense those who do evil for what they have done, and reward those who do good with a better reward (Paradise).” (QS. an-Najm: 31)

The Prophet said,

“The intelligent person is the one who can subdue his lusts and work for (the benefit of) afterlife. And a weak person is one who follows his lusts and expects from Allah some boon.” (HR Ahmad, Turmudzi, Ibn Majah and Hakim)

If you say to the deceived person, “Do not work and trade. After all, Allah will provide.”

Upon hearing your words he would have replied, “I never believed that everything would come by itself without effort and search accompanied by various obstacles and hurdles.”

Whereas Allah has guaranteed his worldly affairs, and does not guarantee his hereafter. Isn’t this backwards?

Hasan Basri said, “The wish for forgiveness has indeed deceived some people so that they leave this world at a loss, that is, from good deeds.”

He also emphasized, “The characteristic of true believers is to always combine virtue and anxiety. In contrast, hypocrites only combine evil and security. The true believer is always in a state of fear and anxiety and when he carries out the activities of life, these two feelings cannot be separated from him and he always says, ‘I may not be safe. It is different with the hypocrite who is averse to doing good deeds and thinks that every human being and his sins will be forgiven by Allah SWT, and so will I.”

Some scholars said, “The angels and prophets, even if they are really close to Allah, have good faith in Him, do good deeds, sin a little or even do not sin, they still fear the punishment and punishment of Allah SWT.”

Allah Almighty says:

“They are those whom Allah has guided, so follow their guidance.” (QS. al-An’am: 90)

SABAR

You should always be patient, because patience is a basic principle that you should have as long as you live in this world. It is also one of the noble morals and great virtues.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“O you who believe, take patience and prayer as your helpers. Verily, Allah is with those who are patient.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 153)

Allah is righteous in His words:

“And We made among them leaders who guide by Our command when they are patient.” (QS. as-Sajdah: 24)

“Verily, it is only those who are patient whose reward is unlimited.” (QS. az-Zumar: 10)

The Prophet’s words:

“Patience is the commander in chief, the army of the believers.” (Hadith)

He said:

“Being patient with something that you hate is an abundance of good.” (al-Hadis)

The Prophet once said to Ibn Abbas:

“And know that help is with patience, and joy is with sorrow, and ease is with hardship.” (al-Hadis)

It is known that one’s goals can be achieved successfully if one frequently draws close to Allah. The realization of this approach can be done by following what is right and avoiding what is wrong forever.

Human lust in terms of its origin always hates what is right and tends to practice what is wrong. A person whose only desire is to attain happiness, always wants to be happy.

requires patience. Sometimes he forces himself

To follow the truth, and sometimes to force him to stay away from falsehood.

Patience itself is divided into four parts:

  1. Patience in doing obedience,

Inwardly obtained by being sincere, sincere and solemn. And outwardly it is realized by routine, craft and always based on religious law. The motive that encourages this patience is the promise of Allah SWT of rewards in the world and the hereafter. Whoever always exercises patience, then he reaches the degree of approach to Allah, so that he is able to feel the benefits and delights in carrying out obedience and he will not be calm, except to always bring himself closer to Allah. And he should only focus on Allah, not on the pleasure of worship.

  1. Patience with disobedience.

The outward result is the ability to eliminate the whispering of the heart and its inclination, because the beginning of a sin is the whispering of the heart.

Remembering past sins. If it will cause fear and regret, then do it. But, if not, then it is better to leave it out. The things that arouse this patience are remembering the threat of Allah’s punishment in this world and the Hereafter.

Whoever in this case can be patient continuously, then Allah will honor him by giving him a reluctance to commit sins so that he thinks it is better to go to the fire than to do even a little sin.

  1. Be patient with everything that is undesirable.

There are 2 kinds of shapes:

First, something that comes directly from Allah without an intermediary, such as illness, misfortune, loss of property, death of noble people from family and friends.

What can be achieved in this patience inwardly is the absence of grumbling, boredom and complaints, while the outward result is the absence of complaints to fellow beings.

It is within one’s patience if one suffers from an illness and goes to the doctor to have it checked out, or sheds tears when calamity strikes, but one should not go to extremes, such as tearing one’s clothes and beating one’s cheeks.

This form of patience implies that the anxiety of the heart that suffocates the soul can erase the reward and cause the punishment to come.

Indeed, one who turns to fellow creatures who cannot provide any benefit or solution is foolish.

This trait is possessed by every creature, because complaining is a sign that someone has not felt sufficient for the gifts of Allah SWT whose glory and kingdom exceeds everything. Allah has mentioned a great reward for those who are willing to be patient in the face of disasters and trials.

Remember, Allah knows better what is more beneficial for His servant. Therefore, be patient!

Allah is righteous in His words:

‘And indeed We shall try you with a little fear, hunger, want of wealth, soul and fruit. And give joy to those who are patient. (Those) who, when afflicted with calamity, say, ‘Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihi raji’un (we belong to Allah and to Him is our return).'” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 155-156)

Secondly, patience with unwanted things that come from fellow creatures, such as being harmed in soul, honor and property. The perfection of this patience is to refrain from being angry with the intruder if he is a Muslim.

Do not repay him with evil and guard your tongue against praying for him with unkind prayers or tormenting him. Be patient and self-controlled and forgive his actions so that you will receive help and reward from Allah.

With this kind of patience, he will know the virtue of curbing anger and resentment, know the wisdom of being hurt by others and the privilege of forgiving others.

Allah’s Word:

“So whoever forgives and does good, his reward is on Allah. Indeed, He does not love the wrongdoers.” (QS. ash-Shuura: 40)

In the next verse Allah SWT emphasizes:

“But he who is patient and forgives, surely such (actions) are among the best things.” (QS. ash-Shuura: 43)

The Prophet’s words:

“Whoever is able to curb his anger when he is able to do so, Allah will fill his heart with prosperity and faith.” (al-Hadis)

He also emphasized:

“The caller on the Day of Judgment will say, “Please stand up whoever has the reward due to Allah.” So stand up those who forgive people.” (al-Hadis)

Whoever is patient in this area, Allah will honor him with the noble character that is the mother of privileges and the owner of perfection.

The Prophet’s words:

“Nothing will be weighed more heavily in the Hereafter than good character. Indeed, the servant of Allah will reach the level of the praying and fasting person with his noble character.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“The one whom I love the most and will be closest to me on the Day of Resurrection is the one who has the best manners.” (al-Hadis)

Ibn Mubarak said, “Good manners can be shown by a radiant face, trying to devote oneself to goodness and not harming fellow creatures.”

Imam al Ghazali said, “Noble character is the steadiness of the heart that can produce positive activities easily.”

Patience from Shahwat

Forbearance from the pleasures of this world that are still permitted by religion can be achieved perfectly inwardly by refraining from thinking and inclining towards them, outwardly by not seeking and pursuing them.

From this patience comes the realization that seeking and utilizing the pleasures of this world can distract one from remembering Allah and worshipping Him. Moreover, this can lead to shirk, haraamness, and greed for the world.

Sulaiman ad Darani said, “Abandoning a desire is more beneficial to the heart than worshiping for a year.”

Whoever is patient to stay away from things that cause desire, Allah SWT will honor him by removing desire from his heart until he is able to say like the words of some people of makrifat, namely:

“I desire that I may abandon everything that I desire so that not a single desire remains within me.”

CONGRATULATIONS

You should always be grateful to Allah for the favors given to you physically and mentally as well as those related to your religion and worldly life. Remember, all favors are from Allah &.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“And whatever blessings you have, they are from Allah. (QS. an-Nahi: 53)

The favors that Allah has bestowed upon you will never be able to be counted, let alone fully appreciated.

“And if you were to bean the favors of Allah, you would not be able to determine their number.” (QS. an-Nahl: 18)

If a poor or sick person were to think about what favors Allah has bestowed upon them, they would be preoccupied with being grateful for and patient with the calamities they experience.

So you should always be grateful for your Lord’s blessings as much as possible, then admit your inability to practice the gratitude that is required of you.

Know that gratitude can preserve favors and invite other favors.

Allah’s Word:

“Indeed, if you give thanks, We will increase blessings upon you.” (QS. Ibrahim: 7)

And Allah will not take away His favors from those who are grateful.

Allah’s Word:

“That is because Allah will not change the blessings He has bestowed on a people until they change what is in themselves (i.e. until they do not give thanks).” (QS. al-Anfal: 53)

In several verses of the Qur’an, Allah tells people to be grateful to Him.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“Eat of the good sustenance We have given you and give thanks to Allah if indeed to Him alone you worship.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 172)

“Eat of the sustenance of your Lord and give thanks to Him.” (OS. Saba’: 15)

In this regard, the Prophet emphasized:

“Faith has two parts. First, patience. Second, gratitude.” (HR. Baihagi from Anas)

Know that just as it is obligatory for you to be grateful for the special favors bestowed upon you by Allah, such as your knowledge and health, so it is obligatory for you to be grateful for the general favors, such as the sending of messengers, the revelation of scriptures, the raising of the heavens and the spreading of the earth.

You know, the knowledge of the heart with some series of favors, that is, any favors will not reach with one’s power and strength, except with the fadilah and grace of Allah. This knowledge is also a manifestation of gratitude.

Maximum gratitude can be shown by your obedience to Allah SWT for every favor given to you. If you do not obey Allah with these favors, then you have abandoned gratitude. And if you use these favors to disobey Him, then you have fallen into kufr, namely kufr of blessings which always leads us to the punishment of Allah SWT.

Whoever still remains in pleasure even though he is immersed in sin, then in fact he has been pulled by Allah SWT towards destruction gradually.

“We will draw them gradually to destruction in a way they do not know.” (QS. al-A’raf: 182)

And the words of Allah SWT:

“Indeed, We gave them respite only so that their sin would increase.” (QS. Al-Imran: 178)

The Prophet said:

“Verily, Allah deliberately delays the punishment of the wrongdoers so that when He has punished them, He will not let them go.” (al-Hadis)

You should know that praising and thanking Allah for the relief and happiness He has bestowed upon us is a means of drawing us closer to Him and a cause for His help.

You should always glorify favors, even if they are small in value.

Allah SWT said to His prophets:

“When I give you even a rounded seed, then know that I remember you, so give thanks to Me.”

Know that often talking about the blessings of Allah SWT upon us does not mean that we want to boast about ourselves, both religious and worldly favors.

Every action depends on the intention, and all good deeds should follow the guidance of the salaf.

ZUHUD

You should always be zuhud, not tempted by the worldly. For that is true happiness, the light of inayah and a sign of clairvoyance.

Just as love of worldliness is a source of error, hate of it is a source of obedience and goodness.

Allah SWT has also confirmed in several verses of the Qur’an that the world is a deceptive adornment (mata’ul ghurur).

Hasan said, “Mata’ul ghurur” is likened to a green garden and a playground for children.

Shaykh Abu Talib al-Makkiy said, “Mataul ghurur” is the name of a type of carcass.

Allah SWT explains that the world is like joking and playing. For those who are able to use their common sense, of course they will not be lulled into it except for those who are stupid and foolish who will fall into it.

Allah’s Word:

“And the life of this world is not but play and amusement.” (QS. al-An am: 32)

Enjoyment in this world and the hereafter will soon be received by those who are zuhud, but this is not possible except for those whose hearts have been illuminated with the light of makrifat and convinced by Allah SWT.

The Prophet’s words:

“Verily, when nur enters the heart, the heart becomes open and spacious. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: “Is there any sign of such a thing?” He replied: “Yes, it is the abandonment of the interests of the deceitful worldly life and the return to the interests of the eternal life of the Hereafter.” (al-Hadis)

He also said:

“Zuhud of the world calms the heart and body. Love of this world, on the other hand, increases sorrow and grief.” (al-Hadis)

He also ruled:

“Be humble towards the world, and Allah will love you.”

Whereas the source of zuhud is the heart’s awareness of the humiliation and lowliness of the world. And that if the world in the sight of Allah is worth even the wing of a mosquito, surely Allah will not give the disbelievers even a sip of water to drink. And that the world is cursed and so is everything in it, except that which is used for the worship of Allah.

The person who digs for the interests of this world more than his needs, then unconsciously he has brought himself closer to destruction.

The inner result of conscientiousness is the abandonment of inclination towards the world, while the outer result is the ability to refrain from indulgence and indulging in lust.

The lowest degree of zuhud is not doing disobedience and not leaving obedience. While the highest degree is not willing to take anything in this world unless he is convinced that taking it is better in the sight of Allah SWT than leaving it.

The signs of a zuhud person are:

1 Does not feel happy when he gains something and does not feel sad when he loses it.

2 Never preoccupied himself with getting the world and having fun in it by neglecting his approach to Allah SWT.

You should remove the love of wealth and riches from your heart so that in your estimation they are equal to stones and bricks, and remove the love of position in society from your heart so that it makes no difference to you between their praise and reproach, their presence and absence.

Indeed, the love of office is far more dangerous than the love of wealth, and both are signs that one has fallen in love with the world.

The main cause of love of position is madness of honor and glory, even though these two things should only be addressed to Allah SWT. Meanwhile, the love of wealth is caused by wanting to have fun accompanied by venting lust which is a characteristic and trait possessed by animals.

Allah SWT says in a qudsi hadith:

“Majesty is My covering and pride is My shawl. So, whoever deprives Me of one of them I will throw him into Hellfire.” (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah from Abi Hurairah)

The Prophet’s words:

“Two hungry wolves let loose in a goat pen are no more dangerous than the love of honor and wealth for a Muslim’s religion.” (al-Hadis)

You should use and take the pleasures of this world only as much as you can, such as dressing, eating, taking a wife and so on.

Do not be tempted by its seduction when you yourself have claimed to be zuhud (abstinent) towards it by citing reasons that are meaningless in the sight of Allah. This is contrary to the behavior of the Prophet, the previous prophets and the scholars who tried their best to turn away from all the pleasures of this world even though they were able to attain them through halal means. This kind of issue is well understood by even people with low levels of education.

If you are unable to be zuhud, then at least admit that you still love and are greedy for the world, while the search and pursuit of pleasure in it is not a sin for you unless you obtain it from a haraam way.

But the meaning of zuhud actually has a higher position than what has been mentioned above. If Allah SWT encouraged us to enjoy the pleasures of this world excessively, then we would not be able to achieve it in this age, an age that is most difficult for us even if we only get a piece of cloth to cover ourselves and a mouthful of halal rice. Verily, we belong to Allah and only to Him do we return.

TAWAKAL

You should always put your trust in Allah SWT because whoever puts his trust and surrender to Allah SWT, then he will also be fulfilled, helped and always favored by Him.

God’s promise:

“Whoever puts his trust in Allah, Allah will provide for him.” (QS. ath-Thalaq: 3)

Tawakal grows out of the fruit of solid tawhid that has been ingrained in the heart and applied in daily life.

Allah is righteous in His words:

“(He is) the Lord of masyrik and maghrib, there is no God but Him, so take Him as a protector.” (QS. al-Muzammil: 9)

Reflect on the verse above, why Allah established His divine attributes and oneness, then He ordered us to put our trust and seek refuge in Him.

Therefore, there is no excuse for any creature not to always put their trust in Allah, and Allah commands them to do so because He loves those who put their trust in Him, as He says,

“… and it is to Allah alone that the believers should put their trust.” (QS. al-Maidah: 11)

Allah said:

“So put your trust in Allah. Verily, Allah loves those who put their trust in Him.” (OS. Ali Imran: 159) The Prophet’s words:

“If you put your trust in Allah earnestly, He will surely provide for you like the sustenance given to a bird that has an empty stomach in the morning and a full stomach in the evening.” (al-Hadis)

Know that the essence of trust in Allah SWT is the realization of the heart that everything is in His hands, whether it is beneficial, harmful, troublesome and happy. It is strongly believed that if all creatures were gathered to provide benefit or harm, then they would not be able to do it at all except with the decree and provisions of Allah SWT.

The conditions of tawakal are: Not disobeying, avoiding all the prohibitions of Allah SWT and carrying out every commandment of Him by relying, asking for help and always surrendering to Him, does not damage the nature of a person’s tawakal if he is engaged in world affairs (causes) (such as trade, work) as long as he depends only on Allah and does not depend on world affairs (work, trade).

Whoever is consistent in tawakal, then he will not be excessive in seeking the world and be able to avoid it as much as possible and establish himself with Allah SWT with purity of heart without neglecting his family’s dependents.

The Prophet said:

“It is a sin for a person to neglect his dependents.” (al-Hadis)

You should know that storing food and medicine will not damage or tarnish the value of a person’s trust as long as he realizes that it is only Allah who gives wealth, benefit and misfortune to His creatures. In fact, the Prophet stored food for his family, and he did this only to confirm that it is permissible to store food for one’s family. However, he did not do it for himself and sometimes other people stored food for the Prophet, and the Prophet forbade his companions to do the same when he learned of it.

He was once asked about the seventy thousand people of his Ummah who entered Paradise without accountability, so he replied,

“They are the ones who never invoke incantations, never praise themselves excessively and never believe in fortune-telling, and to God they always put their trust.” (al-Hadis)

The signs of a person who has pure submission. First, he has no hope or fear of anything other than Allah, and he speaks the truth in the presence of those whose good he hopes for and fears evil, namely rulers and kings.

Secondly, he does not put too much importance on the issue of sustenance because he believes that everything is the responsibility of Allah. Although his needs are not met, his soul remains calm as if everything has been fulfilled. Third, his heart never feels fear and trepidation because he believes that everything that is not destined for him will definitely not hit him, and vice versa.

It is said that while Shaykh Abdul Oadir al-Jailany r.a was explaining about destiny, a very large snake suddenly fell towards him, wrapped around his neck, entered one of his sleeves and came out through the other. Seeing such an incident the audience immediately left the place with fear and hysterics filling their souls, but he remained steadfast to continue his explanation.

There was also a scholar who was deliberately thrown in front of a wild animal, but strangely he survived, nor did the animal dare to harm him.

When asked, “What were you thinking about when you were in front of the beast?” He replied, “I only worry about the beast’s saliva getting on me, but I never fear it because Allah SWT is the best Protector.

THE EMBODIMENT OF LOVE

You should put your love for Allah SWT above all others, even if He is the only one you should love.

The cause of love is when the beloved has perfection and can give something to the one who loves.

If you love something because of its perfection, goodness, and greatness, then know that these things belong only to Allah SWT and there is no partner for Him. Everything that is realized with perfection and beauty, it is only He who created and realized it. Had He not willed to create it, this blessing would not have been realized and had He not given the light of His beauty to His creatures, these creatures would be ugly and always filled with misfortune.

If you are one of those who love the gifts of those you love, then you will not see the kindness, grace, glory of the gifts and bestowals of all creatures in this universe, except for Allah, who is all-sufficient.

For you it is all due to His mercy and generosity towards you. He is your King and Lord. He also created you, guided you, brought you to life, put you to death, fed and watered you, provided for you, educated you and gave you shelter.

When you have disgraces and weaknesses, He immediately covers them. And if you ask Him for forgiveness, He immediately forgives all your sins and if He sees good in you, He will multiply and reveal that good.

If you obey Him with His Taufiq and help, He will place your name in a great place and all creatures in the heavens and earth will shower you with love and affection. On the other hand, if you disobey Him, then He still favors you. Therefore, why do you still love other than Him, the Most Merciful, and why do you not feel ashamed when you always disobey Him, the Most Gracious.

Know that love arises from recognition and its fruit is witnessing. The lowest level of love is when your heart is filled with love for Him. You can feel this when someone wants to invite you to disobedience and persuade you to leave obedience, then you firmly refuse and leave him.

The highest level of love is when there is no love left in your heart for anything but Allah. This is indeed rather difficult to do, especially the continuation of this kind of love. Because if this love continues, then the human traits disappear in him as a whole, so that he sinks into a state of always remembering Allah SWT even he no longer feels every form in this universe.

Love for the Prophet, the prophets, the angels and the righteous servants of Allah is also a form of love for Him.

The Prophet said,

Love Allah for the favors bestowed upon you. Love me because of Allah. And love my family because of me.” (HR Turmudzi and Hakim from Ibn Abbas)

In Hadith Qudsi, Allah says:

‘My love will be bestowed on those who fall in love with each other for My sake, sit together talking about Me, make pilgrimages for My sake and give to each other for My sake.'” (Reported by Ahmad, Hakim, Thabrani, Ibn Hibban and Baihaqi from Mu’adz)

True love is characterized by following in the footsteps of the Messenger of Allah, both in his words, deeds and morals. Allah SWT says:

“Say, ‘If you truly love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you.'” (QS. Al-Imran: 31)

A servant’s love for Allah depends on how much he emulates the beloved of Allah SWT (Muhammad Saw). If his love for Allah is great then his imitation of the Prophet is also great and vice versa.

WILLING WITH ALLAH’S PROVISIONS

You should always be willing to accept Allah’s decree, because willingness is the result of the noblest mahabbah and makrifat.

People who love are naturally willing to go along with their lover’s actions, sweet or bitter for them.

Allah SWT says in the hadith gudsi:

“Whoever is not pleased with My gadha and is not patient with My trials, then seek a god other than Me.” (HR. Ibn Hibban, Thabrani, Abu

Dawud and Ibn Asakir)

Sabda Rasululiah (peace be upon him):

“Verily, when Allah loves a people, He gives them a trial. So, whoever is pleased (with My trial), for him is (My) pleasure. And whoever is displeased (with My trial), for him is My wrath.” (al-Hadis)

Therefore, it is obligatory for you, O believer, to know and believe firmly that it is only Allah who gives guidance and misguidance, distress and happiness, brings near and takes away, gives and withholds, humbles and exalts, gives harm and benefits. When you know this and believe in it, then it is obligatory for you not to oppose Allah physically and mentally, or in words that protest Allah SWT.

Why is this happening? What is it for? What is the reason why this is happening? What sin has caused so-and-so to be subjected to such trials?

There is nothing more foolish than to oppose Allah to His kingdom and power. He knows that only God has the power to create, rule, punish and regulate every creature. He has the right to do whatever He wants and punish whomever He wants.

“He will not be questioned about what he has done, but they will be questioned.” (QS. al-Anbiya’: 23)

In this case it is obligatory for you to believe that all of Allah’s works are certain and that there is no law stronger, fairer and more perfect than His. The above explanation implies the notion of being content with Allah’s decree in a global sense.

For clarity, let us look in more detail at the definition of rida (willing), which in this case is divided into two parts.

First, the things that are always with you such as health and wealth. In this section, you will not feel regret and displeasure unless you look at those who have advantages in these two matters.

Therefore, it is obligatory for you to be content with the health and wealth that Allah, the Almighty, has given you, having chosen something that is beneficial and best suited to your situation.

Secondly, something that rarely happens to you such as disaster, illness and poverty. It is forbidden to complain and regret the situation, the best for you is to be content and tawakal, and if you are able to do so, then be patient and satisfied with the gifts of Allah SWT. The Prophet said:

“Worship Allah with contentment. If you cannot, then be patient with whatever you dislike, for there is much good in it.” (al-Hadis)

It is different with the ignorant people who always feel at ease by leaving Allah’s commands and carrying out His prohibitions and they also argue that they are satisfied with the provisions of Allah SWT.

Committing disobedience and forsaking obedience will not earn Allah’s pleasure, rather it will earn His wrath. Therefore, how can they say that they are pleased with Allah when Allah Himself is not pleased with them?

This is in accordance with the words of Allah SWT:

If you disbelieve then surely Allah does not need your faith and He does not approve of disbelief for His servants, but if you give thanks, surely He will approve of your giving thanks.” (QS. az-Zumar: 7)

Indeed, their pleasure is only poured out on themselves, but they actually think that they are pleased with Allah SWT So, we need to know that pleasure in the passions and pleasure in the provisions of Allah SWT will never merge.

Imam al Ghazali said to Abil Fathi ad Dimsygi, “Rida of Allah’s decree, inwardly is that you are willing to accept everything that is done by Allah SWT While outwardly is that you are always happy to do everything that is pleased by Him.”

To find out the level of one’s willingness to qadha Allah SWT. then pay attention to how he behaves when he is afflicted with calamities in the form of disease and poverty. That’s when you can judge the level of his willingness to Allah SWT.

At this very moment, if you ask those who are committing disobedience and forsaking obedience, “why are you doing that?”

They replied, “This action of ours was predestined by Allah and we are unable to let it go because we are helpless servants.”

This is the answer of the Jabariyah. Then we must also ask, “What was the need for Allah to appoint messengers and send down some scriptures for them?”

Their opinions are clearly wrong and deviate from the truth.

In fact, it is very surprising that they argue in matters of faith and they feel that their argument is more correct than Allah SWT.

A believer should not say the words of the polytheists found in the words of Allah SWT:

“If Allah had willed, neither we nor our fathers would have associated partners with Him, nor would we have forbidden any thing.” (QS. al-An am: 148)

Then Allah answered:

“Say (O Muhammad), do you have any knowledge so that you can present it to Us? You follow nothing but mere conjecture, and you are nothing but lying.” (QS. al-An’am: 148)

Thus in the Hereafter the polytheists will not be able to comment on the above excuse, rather they will say:

“O our Lord, we have been overcome by our wickedness, and we are those who go astray.” (QS. al-Mukminun: 106)

“O our Lord, we have seen and heard, so bring us back (to the world), we will do righteous deeds, indeed we are of those who believe.” (QS. as-Sajdah: 12)

Prayer will not tarnish the sanctity of being content with Allah’s decree. Rather it serves to bring us closer and express a sense of devotion. The Jain function of prayer is to declare and acknowledge that we are weak, lowly and always in need of His help. If you realize this and practice it, then you will feel that you are truly close to Him.

The Prophet’s words:

“Supplication is the key to worship, the believer’s weapon, the light of the heavens and the earth. Whoever does not supplicate to Allah, Allah is angry with him.” (al-Hadis)

Allah is righteous in His words:

“Allah has good names, so invoke Him by mentioning these names.” (QS. al-A’raf: 180)

And your Lord said, “Pray to Me, and I will grant you.” (QS. Ghafir: 60)

In a narration it is stated that Prophet Ibrahim did not say any prayer when he was thrown into the fire This is because of certain causes that he experienced in such conditions.

But in other events he always prayed to Allah SWT and even his stories are revealed in the Qur’an more than other prophets. Therefore, study and explore the sciences contained in the Qur’an which is the source of all knowledge. Learn the complex and the general, the real and the abstract.

“We have not spelt out anything in the Qur’an.” (QS. al-An’am: 38)

And in another of His words:

“And We have revealed to you (Muhammad) the Qur’an to explain things, and to guide, and to give mercy, and glad tidings to those who surrender.” (QS. an-Nahi: 89)

THE WILLS OF ALLAH NARRATED FROM HADITH AND ATSAR

Allah SWT says in His Qudsi hadith:

“O My servant, I have indeed forbidden injustice to Myself and I have also forbidden it to you, so do not oppress one another.”

“O My servants, indeed you are all in error, except those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me, and I will give it to you.”

“O My servant, indeed you are all hungry, except those whom I have fed, so ask Me, I will give it to you. O My servant, indeed all of you are naked, except those to whom I have given clothing, so ask Me, and I will give it to you.”

O My servant, surely you have done wrong all day and night. And I also forgive all your sins, so ask Me for forgiveness, and I will forgive you.”

“O My servant, indeed you will not be able to benefit Me, then you give it to Me. O My servant, you will not be able to bring harm to Me, then you inflict it on Me.”

“O My servant, if the first generation to the last generation of you from among men and jinn truly fear Me, then it will not increase My kingdom one iota.”

“O My servant, if your first generation to your last generation, both from among men and jinn, completely disobey Me, then that does not diminish My kingdom in the least.”

“O My servant, if your first generation to your last generation, both from the human and jinn groups, were all gathered in one place to ask Me for their respective needs, and I were to grant each of their requests, then such a thing would not diminish anything that I have, except like a drop from a needle dipped in the ocean. O My servant, verily I have included each of your deeds in My account and will reward you according to your goodness. Whoever gains that good let him thank Allah, and whoever gains other than that, then never reproach anyone but himself.”

The Prophet said:

“Verily, Allah has revealed to me that you should be humble so that no one may boast against his neighbor, and no one may do wrong to his neighbor.”

The Prophet’s words:

“I saw my Lord in a dream.” Then he continued talking until Allah said: “O Muhammad! When you pray, say Allahumma Inni As-aluka fi’lal khairaati wa tarkal munkarati wahubbul masakina waidza aradta bi’ibadika fitnatan fa-aqbidlni ilaika ghaira maftun (O Allah, verily I ask You (that I) do good and forsake evil, love the poor. And if You are about to send a trial upon Your servants, then grasp my soul so that I will not be afflicted by it.”

The Prophet’s words:

“Allah & said, “O son of Adam, stand before Me, I will not walk to you and walk to Me, I will hasten to you. O son of Adam, remember Me for a few moments every day and evening, then I will provide for you between that time. O son of Adam, do not forget to pray four rak’ahs in the morning, then I will provide for you in the afternoon.”

Allah SWT gave revelation to Prophet Adam:

Four things that can gather good for you and your children and grandchildren, namely: First, that which is related to Me. Second, it is related to you. Third, between you and Me. Fourth, between you and My servants.

As for what concerns Me, you should worship Me and do not associate Me with anything.

What concerns you is your deeds, and I will repay them. What concerns you and Me, you should always pray and it is My duty to grant it. The matter that is between you and My servants, then get along with them, as they also want to get along with you.

In the suhuf of Ibrahim it is mentioned:

It is obligatory for a reasonable person to restrain his tongue from idle talk, to be sensitive to his times and to be diligent in achieving his goals.

It is also obligatory for a reasonable person to divide his time into four parts, namely:

First, it is to commune with God. Second, to correct himself. Thirdly, time to visit his friends so that they can advise him. Fourth, a time to indulge in the (permissible) pleasures of the world in moderation.

In the Torah it is also mentioned that Allah has said, “O son of Adam, do not feel lazy to establish prayer before Me. I am the God who, when you draw near to your heart, you will be able to see My light.”

It is also mentioned in some of the scriptures that have been revealed before.

“O son of Adam, it is I who created you that you should devote yourself to Me, and do not play with it. I am the one who provides for your sustenance, so do not work hard by exerting yourself.”

“O son of Adam, seek Me, and you will find Me. Verily, if you find Me, you will find all things, but if you are separated from Me, all things will be separated. And I love you more than anything else.”

“O son of Adam, I am Allah the Almighty, and when I want something, I just say ‘I’, and everything I want comes to pass.” Allah said to Prophet Moses:

“O son of Imran, be ever vigilant and be able to choose your companions and intimate friends, for none of them will be able to help you. If they cannot persuade you to love Me, then they should be your enemies.”

“O Moses, leave the place of the wrongdoers, which is not a suitable place for you, and avoid the inclination of your heart to it. Verily, the best of places are those in which the inhabitants do good deeds.”

“O Moses, surely I am always watching over the wrongdoers until I take back the rights of the wronged. O Moses, when wealth comes to you, say, “This is the sin that hastens the punishment”, and when poverty comes to you, then say, “Welcome the symbol of the righteous”.

“O Moses, do not forget to always remember Me. If you forget, then in your forgetfulness sin increases. Do not accumulate wealth, for that hardens the heart.”

“O Moses, say to the wrongdoers, “Do not remember Me, for when they remember Me, I remember them with curses, and I have sworn on My Substance to always remember those who remember Me.””

Allah said to the Prophets:

“Say to your people, “Do not enter the place of the enemies of My enemies, do not wear the clothes of My enemies, do not ride in the vehicles of My enemies, and do not eat their food. If you continue to disregard My warning, then you have become My enemy like them.”

Allah said to Prophet Dawud:

“You should be at ease with Me and sad with others.

“O Dawud, tell My servants who are sincere to Me that they are happy when they remember My name and feel the pleasure of being with Me.”

“O Dawud, make Me beloved by My servants.” David asked, “O my Lord, how do I make You loved by Your servants?” Allah replied, “Remind them of the favors I have bestowed.”

“O Dawud, whoever hastens to run to Me, I will record him as wise.”

“O Dawud, if you see anyone seeking Me, then make yourself My servant.”

“O Dawud, do not ask Me about those scholars who have become so intoxicated by the world that they prevent you from My path. They are the robbers of My servants.”

“O Dawud, do the deeds of the good people and smile at the one who has drifted into disobedience. Associate with My lovers (My aulia) and avoid My enemies earnestly. O Dawud, be a loving father to an orphan If you practice this, surely I will increase your sustenance and forgive all your sins.”

“O Dawud. close your eyes from that which is forbidden by Shara” and guard your tongue from unwholesome speech. For indeed I do not love the wicked. Frequently seek forgiveness for yourself and for those who do wrong.”

Allah gave revelation to some of His nahi Nyaya

“Remember Me when you are angry, then I will remember you when you are angry and I will not destroy you when I destroy others.”

God gave revelation to Prophet Isa:

“Tell the Children of Israel not to enter My house except with a pure heart and a solemn gaze and a clean body.”

“Tell them that I will not answer their prayers or those before them who have done wrong.”

Allah SWT gave revelation to Prophet Isa. “O son of Maryam, advise yourself first and if you can accept the advice then advise the people. But if not then shame on you.”

And in the atsar it is mentioned that Allah SWT says: “Tell those who study knowledge not for religion, do not practice knowledge, wear soft clothes, their tongue is sweeter than honey, but their heart is more bitter than the shobir tree, do they want to deceive Me and dare against Me? And indeed I swear that I will send them a fitnah that will make the patient among them confused.”

Allah SWT gave a revelation to Prophet Moses: “If you ask a poor person then ask as you would ask a rich person (respect) Otherwise bury all your knowledge that I taught you.

Allah SWT gave revelation to Prophet Dawud: “O Dawud, tell My auliya and My lovers to leave their friends because the remembrance of Me will give pleasure, I will talk to My pleasure and I will remove the veil by seeing My majesty. And tell the inhabitants of the earth, I am the lover of those who love Me, the seatmate of those who sit with Me, the giver of tranquility to those who ask Me for tranquility, always faithful to those who are faithful to Me, obeying (always granting wishes) to those who obey Me, always choosing for those who have chosen Me, so come to My glory, befriend Me, and do business with Me. I am Generous and Great, I speak to things: So be it.”

Allah SWT gave revelation to His prophets:

“O My servant, give Me your tears and your solemn heart and then pray, surely I am the one who is near and I am also the one who always answers all prayers.”

“O my servant, stop at cities and buildings and tell the people there of two words from me. First, let them not eat except what is lawful Second, let them not speak except what is right.”

If they want to do something, they should think about what the consequences will be. If it is good, tell them to do it, and if it is bad, tell them to leave it.

Allah SWT gave revelation to Prophet Isa:

“Tell the Children of Israel that they should be content with the disgrace of the world for the sake of the salvation of their religion just as those who love the world are content with the disgrace of their religion for the sake of their worldliness.”

Allah SWT gave revelation to Prophet Musa:

“You shall be like a bird alone at the end of a tree drinking pure water. When night falls, it moves to a cave out of love for Me and hates those who disobey Me.”

“O Moses, I have sworn to Myself, “Surely I will not complete the work of those who turn away from Me, and I will cut off the imagination of those who think of other than Me. I will weaken the strength of those who rely on other than Me. I will prolong the grief of those who are most attached to other than Me. And I will also turn away from those who love something more than Me.”

“O Moses, verily I have some servants. When they call upon Me, I am ever mindful of them; when they invite Me, I go to them; when they come to Me, I go to them. When they love Me, I love them. If they purify themselves for My sake, I purify them. If they do good deeds, I will reward them. I am the one who manages their affairs and guides their hearts and behavior. I will not rest their hearts except in remembrance of Me, for it is the cure of all diseases and the soother of the heart. They will not be happy, except with Me. They will not move their hearts except with that which I approve of and their hearts will not be at ease except with Me.”

God gave revelation to Prophet Dawud:

“O Dawud, encourage the sinners and threaten the sincere (shiddiqin).”

“O my Lord, how can I threaten the truthful and give glad tidings to the sinful?” asked David.

“Bless those who sin, for no matter how great the sin, I will also forgive it. And threaten those who are honest, for in that honesty, they have been arrogant with their deeds. And I will never tarnish My justice and My reckoning, unless they themselves corrupt it.”

“O Dawud, I have ensured mercy upon Myself and I am the One who forgives whoever asks Me for forgiveness, whether the sin is great or small for there is no value of the greatest sin before Me. Do not destroy yourself and despair of My mercy in anything for My mercy always precedes My wrath.

“The treasures of heaven, earth and all goodness are in My power.”

“I will not create anything out of necessity, but so that you may know My power and for those of understanding to be able to know the laws of My arrangement.”

“O Dawud, listen to a truth that I will tell you. Whoever among My servants fears My punishment, then I do not punish him with My hell.”

“And whoever of My servants is ashamed of his disobedience, then I will also forget and not hold him accountable for that sin.”

“O Dawud, listen to something from Me. If there is one of My servants who is constantly drowning in sins until his sins fill the world, then he regrets and seeks forgiveness from Me, and I have known that in his heart there is no intention of repeating it, then I will remove that sin as soon as possible, even faster than the flight of a bird from the sky to the earth.”

Then David prayed:

“O my Lord, to Thee be all adoration and praise, therefore it is not fitting that he who recognizes Thee should cut off his hope from Thee.”

O Allah, grant us from Your side a great reward, and show us the straight path. And make us among those whom You have favored from the prophets, as-Siddigin, as-Syuhada and they are the best of friends. That is a gift from Allah, and Allah is the All-Knowing. Praise be to Allah, the beginning and the end, the physical and the mental, for He is the First and the Last, the Physical and the Mental. And He knows everything. What Allah wills is what will happen, and there is no power except by the will of Allah, the Most High and Great. Praise be to Allah, Who has guided us and if it were not for His guidance we would have gone astray.
